Property owners left us to it and did not harass us. Lodge extremely comfortable. Tea coffee and cleaning products were there for our use. Kitchen well equipped.

On arrival we were happy that the road leading to the lodge was in a nice environment with surrounding orchard. But the drive leading to the property had it difficulties leading there because it was not maintained properly. It was full of potholes and bushes and sticks sticking out of plants causing unnecessary risk to any vehicle. There was one place with a metal pipe on the path which was stinking right out next to a pothole damaged our car’s lifting jack support pad. When I spoken to the owner later about it, his explanation was these potholes and metal pipes are there to simply “stop people speeding on the path”. The 1st impression coming to the lodge was it is not clean and tidy. There were some rubbish left on the doorstep of the property and the kitchen bin had no lid. After opening the front door we started getting a really bad smell first thought was it might be to do with the fishing lake near by so we came inside and shut all the windows and doors. Inside the property it looked not to be cleaned for a good standard, there were still a lot of dog fur on carpets and living room furniture, months of buildup of dust on corners of the carpets, door frames and spider webs. There were build up of mold in bathrooms, also dust and statins on sofa made us disgusted to even sit on them. Once our 5 year old daughter started to cough and complain about the smell of the property it definitely started to be a big concern for us. Regarding the smell that came from the property it was still there even after an hour reaching the property. Then it was very clear the smell is definitely coming from the toilets and basins. That was a big no no for us because it could be casing a health and wellbeing concern for our family. These installed toilets were old style less water Separett toilets, where main bathroom’s one had a crack as well. It was too late to call for any help therefore we close the bathroom door had a pre-made quick meal and went to sleep. Next day morning we meet with the owner / caretaker of the property Martin where he asked about our stay. I started explaining the issues we had but he was in a hurry to go and rescue a cow who got stuck on mud day before. Which made sense as the 1st priority, so we were fine with that for him to visit us after he attend to that. Next thing just after 9 am I called the customer services of “Sykes Cottages” to explain our issues so far, where they seems to be helpful and asked me to send photos of the issues and meantime they will contact the owner to try to solve our issues with the property. There was no response back from them so I called again around 11. I was advised they are still trying to contact the owner and we better should keep our day as plan and go out but leave the keys so the owner come come to the property and look out for them and try to have a fix. Later, we went out and around 2ish we had a response back from Sykes cottages the owner had flush the septic tank and that should have fix the smelling issue and we were advised to return to the property to check it out on our convenient. We were definitely not happy to return back to the property and stay another day there with that awful smell. But we had to take the advise from “Sykes cottages” because it was needed to give a chance to the owner to make things right. After the arrival of property we still were getting the smell and it was definitely like before while using it. I called “Sykes cottages” to explain the problem again and we are in need of help to relocate to a different property ASAP. But the agent I’ve spoken was quite keen to follow the procedure that they need to call the owner 1st and inform of our preference. Even after a hour of waiting I didn’t hear any thing back so I had to call “Sykes cottages” again. This time after explaining everything the agent on the phone agreed to find an alternative property for us that was available within 1 hour drive. So she had to contact the owner that property to check the readiness of the property so I came of the call. Next time I’ve spoken to her, she advised me that the owner of property is about 1 hour drive from the property so once she reached there we’ll be notified. The time was around 7.30 and she advised me even if the call centre will close for the day at 8.00 pm someone from out of hours will contact me and provide me with the new property details for us to allocate. But even after couple of time of calling the out of hour (voice mail) there was no response back until 10 pm. Everyone in our family was waiting to relocate to the next property meantime, but the call was not some we expected. It was clear that we won’t be relocating to a new property because the owner of Pomona lodge disagreed with our comments made about cleaning ness of his property and he believed it was handed to us without no issues. Basically that was it for us, we immediately made the decision not to even spent a minute unnecessary in that property, as it was too late to drive back to home for a 5 - 6 hour journey with elderly parents and a 5 year old so we had to spent the night there and 1st thing next day morning @ 9.05 we left Pomona lodge. I made my last call to “Skye cottages” after reaching home and with that conversation It was quite clear how irresponsible this case was handled by “Skye cottage”. The agent even knew if the septic tank was flushed in a situation like this the smell wouldn’t go away over night, but they still let us stay in the property intentionally to buy time. Which had ruined our holiday and our mental wellbeing as well. Most disappointedly the property was still bookable from next day (31st of August) basically they haven’t done the right thing of taking the property out even temporarily by leaving someone else to face the same issues and have their holiday ruined.
