Some maintenance issues are mentioned, but overall, the property offers a tranquil and enjoyable stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property is generally regarded as very clean, with specific compliments on the spotlessness upon arrival and the quality of the bedding and towels. However, a few guests noted issues with cobwebs, dirty glass surfaces, and a blocked shower drain, slightly affecting the overall cleanliness perception.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to the sea, and excellent walking territory. The remote setting adds to its charm, although some guests found the narrow, single-track roads challenging and the last few miles to the cottage to be a downside.

Guests find the cottage cosy, warm, and comfortable, with high-quality bedding and towels. The property is described as homely, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings, contributing to a peaceful and relaxing stay.

The facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and high-quality equipment. However, some guests reported minor issues such as outdated guides, a need for smaller dinner plates, and maintenance concerns like loose taps and end-of-life appliances. The broadband failure was also noted.

While guests appreciate the thoughtful interior design and extra touches, there is no mention of gifts provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to score this category based on the available information.

About this property

Amid meadows along little lanes 5½ miles from Clovelly is this cottage, one of a group converted from old barns. Just a field away from the North Devon coast and the South West Coast Path, it is a rural haven for walkers and anyone seeking peace. On the ground level you will notice the upside down layout when you come across the two bedrooms. Head on upstairs to your open plan living space, all beautifully stylish with lofty beamed ceiling and light from French windows taking you down steps to the garden. This is carefully designed accommodation with comfort and chic style. Sit out in the sunshine in the tidy and private garden to the side of the cottage, complete with table and chairs. In 100 yards you will find a National Trust footpath leading you to the dramatic coastline. There are lots of pretty places for you to explore, with the cobbled car-free streets of the ancient harbourside village of Clovelly and striking Hartland. You can take day trips to Lundy Island from Clovelly, or head to fabulous surf and sand beaches at Westward Ho! and Bude. The children will love the two family adventure parks with adrenaline boosting rides within ten miles, especially handy if the weather is less than favourable. Saltwind Granary is an idyll, a haven for peace and discovering the North Devon coastline.

The picturesque fishing village of Clovelly occupies a secluded, cliffside position and attracts visitors from the world over. A pedestrianised, cobbled street winds its way down the hillside passing the colourful gardens that characterise the village's pretty, whitewashed cottages, on its way down to the sheltered harbour.

Lots of coastal walks all around the Hartland peninsula and extremely quiet everywhere. Amazing views from the coast path and very easy to do circular walks back through farmland. The cottage is very well designed and equipped throughout. The owners have thought of everything that may be needed! The only disappointment was the garden, which gets very little sun (due to a large overgrown tree) and the rattan sun loungers definitely need to be replaced. Hartland has 3 good pubs and a village shop. Roads are very quiet, most likely only to encounter a tractor! Overall a fantastic relaxing week spent at this cottage

Cottage presented really well. Clean. Nice bedding. Nice towels. Heating heats up really fast. Nice strong shower. Cutlery good. Welcome pack - Nice supply of sachet tea, coffee and biscuits. Nicely furnished and finished to an excellent standard throughout. Nice grounds. Minor Complaints. No parasol Outside bin full on arrival Outside table needs cleaning Garden neglected Patio furniture splitting (the plastic wicker) No spare bin bags Weeds Knives in knife block wouldn’t cut butter Only 2 dishwasher tablets The Bad. Place is surrounded by fields and we arrived when farmers were harvesting. This means we had days on end of the holiday ruined by the constant loud machinery noise. **This went on from 7AM till 10PM !** There are no restrictions on the times a farmer can use machinery it seems. We could not open windows or doors when it was hot due to the noise. We also couldn’t use the garden as just too loud! Booking Company - Sykes I wanted to try and get some info about arrival, and also to see if someone (Sykes, host or management company) could possibly find out from the farmers roughly what day the machinery will stop, as we were going to leave early as it was driving us nuts. Sykes have been the worst booking company I have dealt with. I will actively avoid this company in the future. Impossible to contact. Try calling and you get a voice recording saying “Text us or WhatsApp us”. When you do you don’t get a reply for 5 hours. And then each reply has several hours in between, if you are lucky enough to get one. I sent a message on WhatsApp, they sent auto responder saying “received message, will be in touch”. 24 hours later they sent another saying “as it’s been 24 hours we can no longer respond!” Unreal! They offer no flexibility at all. VRBO and others will contact host or management to find answers, Sykes just say “don’t know, tough”.

However we found bags of rubbish left in the rear garden from previous occupiers which had been attacked by vermin, the contents strewn about. No rubbish bags had been left in the property. This was rectified mid week by calling customers services. The rear garden looked unkept, the recliners wearing thin, the area had not been weeded yet other larger properties near by were immaculate.
