This pretty thatched detached cottage is located in a private woodland valley about three miles from Torrington. Surrounded by beech trees and 50 yards from a stream, it is a lovely peaceful place with lots of outdoor freedom for families with older children. Leave your boots and coats in the little porch and step up through stable doors into the heart of the home open plan living space with beams, cosy wood burning stove in the inglenook, a window seat where you can sit with a coffee and gaze over the woods and comfy chairs. Head on up the steep old fashioned stairs to the three bedrooms under the snug eaves, all with traditional wood floors and some low beams. Sit out on the bench in the little cobbled garden at the front or eat al fresco at the table to the side of the cottage. Older children will love exploring the wild, sloping woodland garden and orchard. This is a fabulous destination for walking and cycling, with the 30 miles of car-free Tarka Trail to the port of Bideford just 50 yards from the cottage. You can lock your bikes safely in a shed or hire bikes locally. RHS Rosemoor is a must for anyone who loves lovely gardens and the Dartington Crystal factory runs tours and provides great souvenirs to take home. The fabulous surf beach at Westward Ho! Is just ten miles distant and a day trip to Dartmoor should feature on your itinerary. Lower Barley Hayes is a magical cottage for enjoying the peace of a stunning secluded valley or exploring the area.

Great Torrington is an unspoilt town built on high ground above the River Torridge, and is a fifteen minute drive from the spectacular North Devon coast at Westward Ho!. With historic links to the Civil War, the “Torrington 1646” attraction at Castle Hill in the town gives an interesting insight to the Roundheads and Cavaliers
