Guests say

Speke's Retreat receives high praise for its peaceful location, ample space, and thoughtful touches like local eggs and a well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the en-suite bathrooms, the large dining table, and the property's suitability for large groups and families. The surrounding countryside offers stunning walks and the host is commended for being responsive and helpful.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable. However, there were mentions of dog hairs and a need for new mattresses, suggesting room for improvement in cleanliness.

The location is appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to coastal walks, though some noted it is a bit remote for tourist destinations and shops.

The property is consistently described as comfortable, with plenty of room for guests and a private garden. The presence of en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom adds to the comfort level.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-stocked kitchen and extras like games and books. However, there were issues with heating and a suggestion for child-friendly dinnerware.

While guests mentioned thoughtful touches like local eggs provided by the host, there is not enough consistent information about gifts to score this category. It should be noted that such gestures are appreciated but not guaranteed.

A lovely week in the heart of Devon, Spekes Retreat was great for the ten of us with plenty of room for the children and adults alike. Wonderful walks which we managed to do between the heavy showers and a great Tuesday evening singing sea shanties in The Anchor at Hartland. Alison (the owner) was welcoming and helpful and I'd highly recommend the cottage.
