Kingfisher Lodge offers a peaceful and relaxing retreat surrounded by beautiful woodland, perfect for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity. Guests enjoyed the private setting, hot tub, and opportunities for woodland walks, with easy access to local amenities and attractions. The cabin is cosy and well-equipped for a comfortable stay, though some guests noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. The property is particularly suited to adults, as the interior steps may not be ideal for young children or the elderly. Overall, it provides a charming escape in a picturesque location.
Several guests found the lodge generally clean on arrival, particularly the kitchen and bathroom, but noted issues such as mould in the bathroom and washing machine, cobwebs, and areas needing more thorough cleaning. Some cleaning was required by guests themselves.
The rural woodland setting was highly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to walks and wildlife. The location is also convenient for accessing Bideford and local attractions, though the approach roads have potholes.
Guests described the lodge as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a peaceful atmosphere. However, one review mentioned an uncomfortable sofa and concerns about the safety of steps for children and the elderly.
The hot tub, board games, books, and entertainment options were appreciated, but some maintenance issues were noted, such as non-functioning hot tub jets, a broken fridge freezer door, and poor TV/WiFi reception.
There were no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Lovely cabin in the woods with hot tub. Peaceful & quiet. Very private great location

We stayed in Kingfisher lodge, which was set in a rural location surrounded by acres of woodland. The lodge was very peaceful and relaxing. Listening to the birds singing in the morning while eating breakfast 'al fresco' was a treat. The hot tub (although not all the jets were working) was an added bonus. Walks round the forest were a delight and we also walked to The Hunters Inn, which was the nearest pub to the site. Food was lovely and staff very friendly. We also used the lodge as a base to drive further afield for more walks (Westward Ho! and Baggy Point and Heddon Valley to name a few). When we arrived the kitchen sink, cooker, fridge and microwave were all clean (microwave could have done with being let open as it smelt strongly of whatever had been cooked in it last, but after another clean, smelt fine) as were the bath, shower, toilet and sink in the bathroom. Not great reception on the tv and virtually no WiFi or mobile signal at the lodge but we expected and it didn't really bother us.There was unfortunately, a problem with black mould in the bathroom (window, edge of bath tiles and to the right of the window frame itself. When we mentioned this to Liz, the owner, she said she could send her cleaning team in the next day to deal with it, but we had already dealt with it sufficiently enough by that point. Other areas of the cabin could have done with more thorough cleaning (dirty hand marks on edges of doors, cobwebs/dead spiders, dirt around the floor edges etc) and the freezer door handle section of the fridge was missing/broken so the door wouldn't stay shut and kept freezing items on the top shelf. The washing machine also needed a good clean before we could use it, as it also had mould in the seal and dispenser. There was also a section of white mould on the ceiling/wall of the upstairs bedroom by the single bed (but we didn't notice this until the end of the stay as we didn't use that bed). Overall, I would recommend staying here as it's an enchanting place to stay, as long as you don't mind the state of the approaching roads (pot holes) and doing some cleaning before you can start your holiday off. I did, however expect it to be cleaner for the price paid.
