Kingfisher Lodge offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by woodland, ideal for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. Guests enjoy the local wildlife, walks, and the nearby pub. The lodge's hot tub and cosy atmosphere are highlights, though some cleaning issues were noted.
Guests reported cleanliness issues such as mould, dirty appliances, and general untidiness. Some cleaning was required upon arrival, which detracted from the overall experience.
The lodge is set in a rural, tranquil location, perfect for walks and enjoying nature. The proximity to Bideford and local attractions is appreciated, though the approach roads have potholes.
The lodge is described as cosy and warm, with a selection of board games and videos for entertainment. However, concerns were raised about the suitability for young children or the elderly due to dark interiors and potentially dangerous steps.
Facilities like the hot tub and washing machine are available, but maintenance issues such as broken jets and mould were mentioned. The lack of TV reception and WiFi signal was expected by some guests.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the property owner, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

We stayed in Kingfisher lodge, which was set in a rural location surrounded by acres of woodland. The lodge was very peaceful and relaxing. Listening to the birds singing in the morning while eating breakfast 'al fresco' was a treat. The hot tub (although not all the jets were working) was an added bonus. Walks round the forest were a delight and we also walked to The Hunters Inn, which was the nearest pub to the site. Food was lovely and staff very friendly. We also used the lodge as a base to drive further afield for more walks (Westward Ho! and Baggy Point and Heddon Valley to name a few). When we arrived the kitchen sink, cooker, fridge and microwave were all clean (microwave could have done with being let open as it smelt strongly of whatever had been cooked in it last, but after another clean, smelt fine) as were the bath, shower, toilet and sink in the bathroom. Not great reception on the tv and virtually no WiFi or mobile signal at the lodge but we expected and it didn't really bother us.There was unfortunately, a problem with black mould in the bathroom (window, edge of bath tiles and to the right of the window frame itself. When we mentioned this to Liz, the owner, she said she could send her cleaning team in the next day to deal with it, but we had already dealt with it sufficiently enough by that point. Other areas of the cabin could have done with more thorough cleaning (dirty hand marks on edges of doors, cobwebs/dead spiders, dirt around the floor edges etc) and the freezer door handle section of the fridge was missing/broken so the door wouldn't stay shut and kept freezing items on the top shelf. The washing machine also needed a good clean before we could use it, as it also had mould in the seal and dispenser. There was also a section of white mould on the ceiling/wall of the upstairs bedroom by the single bed (but we didn't notice this until the end of the stay as we didn't use that bed). Overall, I would recommend staying here as it's an enchanting place to stay, as long as you don't mind the state of the approaching roads (pot holes) and doing some cleaning before you can start your holiday off. I did, however expect it to be cleaner for the price paid.

Terrible Sofa.

Wouldn't recommend for young children of elderly as the steps inside can be dangerous. It is very dark due to the wood and lights were needed most of the day.
