Guests consistently mention the cottage's immaculate condition and high standard of cleanliness, with only a minor issue regarding a warm cream in the welcome basket.

The cottage's location is appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions, despite some concerns about narrow access roads and the walk to the nearest pub.

Reviewers frequently highlight the comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere of the cottage, indicating a high level of comfort throughout their stay.

The property is well-equipped with modern conveniences and a fully functional kitchen, though there are minor suggestions for improvements such as additional mirrors and night lights for safety.

The welcome basket is a recurring positive note among guests, showcasing the owners' thoughtfulness. However, it is politely noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Situated just a mile from the bustling square of the popular Dartmoor town of Chagford in Devon, is this Grade II listed cottage. Beautifully converted, Maple Cottage sits alongside just four other cottages crafted from traditional stone barns in a quiet private courtyard. Stylish and thoroughly well done, the interior space has been carefully designed using light and colour to create a wonderfully relaxing, contemporary retreat. After a day on the moor, there can be nothing nicer than to settle down in front of the crackling wood burning stove with a favourite film and a glass of something cool. On the first floor under the eaves are two tranquil bedrooms perfect for a peaceful night's sleep. At the front of the cottage is a terraced garden where you can sit out and enjoy a relaxed supper or morning coffee. With lovely countryside all around, this is a great area for exploring. Head along the winding lane into Chagford to explore the little shops followed by a pub lunch in a choice of excellent inns. In the summer months, you can take a dip in the town's famous fresh water lido. Dartmoor's vast open spaces are within easy reach; explore on foot, bike or car. Castle Drogo sitting high above the Teign Valley is a National Trust gem and well worth a visit. Further afield, the historic Cathedral town of Exeter and sandy beaches of the South Hams are within an easy drive. Maple Cottage is an idyllic place for enjoying stunning scenery and complete relaxation.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.

Parking area can be tricky. Sitting out area is where you park. Entrance to parking area is tight so smaller cars are best.

Although in a fairly rural location there are many local footpaths and good dog walking… nearby Chagford offers a number of pubs and shops.

Location suited us very well for superb walks with our dogs and also into Chagford for shops & eating out.
