Spend your days spotting deer as you stroll along the property’s unique ‘Jurassic Walkway’ – a raised walkway that leads you into the treetops – and your evenings warming your toes by the lodge’s glowing wood burner.

Step inside and you’ll discover a welcoming lounge area, which manages to retain its cosy ambience thanks to its exposed beams, high ceilings and fabulous galleried landing (children must be supervised). When it’s time to eat, head into the kitchen/dining area where you’ll find everything you need to rustle up an elegant dinner for your loved ones. Get everyone together for a sociable meal in the dining area and enjoy the views through the French doors to the raised balcony while you dine. Alternatively, make your way outside to dine alfresco among the trees at the picnic bench on the raised balcony. When the day is done, head up the stairs and you’ll find three charming bedrooms.

Take a stroll into Chulmleigh (3 miles), a small hilltop market town with a good selection of shops and pubs. Take a lesson at the riding stables or enjoy a round of golf. Or, pack up a picnic and head to Eggesford Forest (1 mile) to explore its impressive network of trails. You can also connect to the Tarka Rail Line there at Eggesford Station, so hop on board and take a scenic journey to Barnstaple or Exeter.
