About this property

Located in the historic village of Chacewater, just five miles from Truro, this old mine captain's cottage is Grade II listed and full of character, with beamed ceilings in the kitchen, dining room and utility room. Being so central to Cornwall, this lovely old cottage is ideally situated for groups of friends or families touring the whole county. Pass over the cobblestones outside, through the front door and from the slate hallway you can enter either the sitting room or the dining room, both of which have old stone fireplaces and log burners. Also on the ground floor is a well-fitted kitchen with a splendid old granite lintel and Cornish slate floors, the slate for which was collected from a quarry in Tintagel by the owners themselves! Upstairs you will find three bedrooms and a bathroom with a lovely roll-top bath and at the back of the cottage, the pretty walled garden is a real sun trap and the perfect place to relax at the end of a long busy day spent exploring. It also provides access to the lane behind, where a private parking space is allocated. 2 The Square is very close to a village pub and grocery shops, a bakery and a daily farmer’s market in the old Square market place across the road. The village of Chacewater lies in the centre of a great mining district and the surrounding landscape contains many reminders of the former industry brought back to life in the BBC’s TV series, Poldark. To gain a unique insight into the area's mining heritage, follow the Mineral Tramways coast-to-coast trail on the old Redruth and Chacewater railway line. The coast to coast route also provides you with a great opportunity to ride or walk across Cornwall in a day, from one coast to another, enjoying a variety of wildlife and spectacular scenery as the trail passes through ancient woodland and heathland. With secure bike storage at the property and bikes available to hire locally, you can cycle from the property in all directions, including both road and mountain biking. Why not meet the Bissoe Trail within just two miles of the cottage? Of course, there are also many fabulous beaches on both sides of the coast that are easily accessible, the nearest being the sandy beach at Porthtowan, five miles away. The village of Porthtowan has a beach-side restaurant and bar so you can enjoy a drink and a meal as you watch the sunset. Porthtowan is also great for surfing and has an abundance of beach and clifftop walks to explore. The city of Truro has excellent shopping opportunities and a good selection of pubs, bistros and restaurants. With so much to offer, this wonderful historic cottage is the perfect location for a getaway at any time of the year.

The Cornish village of Chacewater is situated just five miles from Truro, between Truro and Redruth in Cornwall. The village lies in the centre of what once was a great mining district, producing more copper and tin than anywhere else in the world. The village and sandy beach of Portreath are a short drive away and from Chacewater, both the north and south coastlines of Cornwall can be explored, with its unspoilt beaches and rugged coastal walking trails stretching for miles, ideal for walkers, bathers and surfers.
