Guests appreciate the well-equipped and cared-for accommodation, with special commendation for the housekeeper, Diane. The unique location offers a blend of history, comfort, and natural beauty, with easy access to local attractions and coastal paths. While some guests mention minor issues, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment in a stunning setting.
Reviewers consistently mention the spotless condition of the cottage, with many expressing appreciation for the high standard of cleanliness maintained by the housekeeper, Diane.
The location is frequently described as spectacular, peaceful, and ideal for those seeking a tranquil retreat with stunning views and proximity to coastal paths and beaches.
Guests find the cottage comfortable and well-furnished, with a warm atmosphere and quality linens. However, a few comments about draughty windows and a large kitchen table suggest minor comfort issues.
The property is praised for being well-equipped and providing modern living amenities. However, the lack of Wi-Fi and a faulty dryer have been noted as inconveniences by some guests.
The welcome hamper and quality toiletries are frequently mentioned as thoughtful touches, although it is politely noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.
This comfortable cottage is situated on the Pendeen Lighthouse site, on a majestic granite headland. It provides a hall, sitting room, kitchen with dining table, bathroom, double bedroom and twin bedroom.
In association with Trinity House, we are pleased to present Solebay Cottage at Pendeen Lighthouse.
Solebay is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse and has a dramatic location on a granite headland on the North Cornwall Coast within a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The South West Coast path passes round the headland, passing through part of Cornwall's oldest mining areas. The lighthouse lies six miles north of Land's End and two miles from St Just. The lighthouse was established in 1900, electrified in 1926 and automated in 1994.
You may be lucky enough to spot seals on the rocks below the lighthouse headland, as well as a variety of seabirds. With banks of seasonal pink thrift and golden gorse, the headland is a perfect location to watch the sun setting over the Atlantic.
Also on this site is Argus Cottage, sleeping three guests.
Additional Information:
Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).
There is no WiFi service at Pendeen Lighthouse site.
The lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Travel cot and highchair available on request.
The dining table is extendable and is shown in the image at its largest. The table will be presented to guests without the middle section on arrival, however, this will be available for guests to extend if required.
Please note:
Very limited mobile signal. A landline telephone is provided for UK and non-premium numbers only.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.
Guests are reminded they are renting a heritage building, therefore certain features such as steps, stairs and floor levels may not comply with that of a modern building. As such, we would advise guests to acquaint themselves with the premises on arrival and exercise caution accordingly.
Access roads to the lighthouse site are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
A barbecue is not provided, however guests are welcome to bring their own, subject to adhering to the safety precautions set out in the arrival information.
Sorry, no fireworks, drones or remote controlled flying equipment are permitted.
Whilst the cliff edge is protected by a 4' high wall, due to the location of the lighthouse, please ensure that children are supervised at all times.

Solebay Cottage proved to be a wonderful, peaceful retreat. When we arrived, the cottage was clean, warm and inviting. Thank you Diana! The cottage had everything a self-caterer could wish for. Not just the essentials but board games and a good variety of books. Thank you for the lovely welcome gift. Also, a big thank you to Rural Retreats for making the booking of our holiday so easy and stress free.
