On the far flung southern coast of England sits Cornwall, a captivating location brimming with rugged natural beauty, cosy British cuisine, roaring waves and mesmerising culture and history. Close to Padstow in Northern Cornwall, and lake facing, your two bedroom holiday home at Retallack Resort is one of the most premium options the resort holds and is perfect for a family of four.
Awarded five stars, Strawberries + Cream is the optimal experience in true luxury. Built out of stone, the property contains two ensuite bedrooms, two baths, a suspended terrace, a private hot tub with calming views of Fistral Lake, and free pool access. Dog friendly, you can even bring your pampered pooch along for the adventure!
You can spend the day breathing in that nourishing coastal air and taking in the wild beauty of the area before returning home to your decadent living area filled with plump velvet sofas, the ideal environment to curl up with a book, glass of wine or film with the family. You can also make use of the complementary health club by accessing the pool and gym.
After parking, enter the property to be greeted by the large hallway. Hang your coat in the cloakroom and put your shoes or wellies in the utility room. The open plan living area is centred on the water and from here you’ll find many idyllic views of your natural surroundings.
The bedrooms are designed with comfort at the forefront. With plush pillows, warm lighting and thick throws, you can snuggle into your sanctuary for a good night’s rest, read blissfully, or pop the television on. The master bedroom also holds a striking lakeside terrace.
The kitchen always forms the heart of any home and you can easily utilise the open plan kitchen to chat to those out on the terrace while you rustle up a meal. You might want to prepare some classic family favourites, small snacks suited to a picnic or some indulgent treats to help you flip the switch into holiday mode.
Gather at the table and allow our chefs to deliver to your door. You can enjoy fresh seafood boxes or delicious pizzas from the resort restaurant. We’d recommend the St Columb Major butchers for meat produce. You can then enjoy your own BBQ on the terrace.
One of the property’s most sought after features is it’s hot tub. There’s no better way to describe the feeling of spending a day exploring only to ease yourself into the heat of the hot tub other than blissful. Flanked by green, this is your own little oasis – a true little home that will welcome you again and again to the charm of Cornwall.
Your home for the duration of your stay is located not far from Padstow in Northern Cornwall in the south of England. It forms part of the Retallack Resort allowing guests access to a huge array of entertainment and services, including free pool access, use of the gym, surfing lessons, coarse fishing, use of the Elemis spa, and meals at the LookOut restaurant. Then there’s the cinematic coast of Cornwall to contend with. The peninsula of Cornwall is quite a paradox. It boasts sandy beaches, wild moorland, and enchanting villages. Surfing aficionados will be drawn to the towering waves. Here you can truly be at one with the water. Whether you head for indoor lessons at Flowrider in the resort or tackle the wild waters head on, you’re bound to have a memorable experience. Surfing isn’t the only sport on the agenda. The intense landscape makes all sorts of activities an exciting prospect including scuba diving, rock climbing and zorbing, amongst many others. As such, adrenaline junkies in particular are drawn here. You might also enjoy heading to Port Isaac for surfing opportunities!
As one of the most popular destinations in the UK, you’re in good company. You’re not far from the town of Padstow, a quintessential Cornish town renowned for its lovely harbour and pretty views. It’s a hugely admired location for food fans – there’s a tremendous gastronomy scene here to enjoy and plentiful fresh produce, especially if you enjoy indulging in seafood. You can also enjoy the seafood restaurant by Rick Stein, a celebrity chef of the area. You might like to spend time at his cooking school too where you can learn to make seafood dishes and curries.
Padstow was formerly a trading port where Celts traded between Britain, France and Ireland. Commonly pilchards, slate, copper and tin were exported here while coal, timber and salt were imported. The Medieval feel of the town makes this a truly intriguing part of the country to visit. You might also like to take a boat trip so that you can see the beaches and the famed coastline of North Cornwall in all its splendid glory. You may get the chance to see many amazing native creatures including seals, dolphins and even majestic whales. For a taste of history, head to the Padstow Museum which is free to enter and take some time learning about lobsters at the Lobster Hatchery which aims to assist the lobster population in the area.
Cyclists might enjoy taking on the River Camel Trail which runs alongside the scenic estuary. You can also choose to hike if cycling is not your thing. You can enjoy some local beers at Padstow tasting co or try a gin and tonic or glass of wine. They also boast some of the best black olives in the area.
For an elegant sample of history, explore Prideaux Place, a grade one listed country house built during the Elizabethan age. The house itself is remarkable but you can also take a tour through the accompanying deer park.
If you happen to be in Padstow for Mayday, make sure you partake in the celebrations. Here it’s referred to as the Obby Oss. Take a trip to the bays of the area including Harlyn, Trevone, Daymer, Booby’s Bay which is dog friendly, Bedruthan Steps and Port Quin. You can also take a ferry to the aptly named Rock, a lovely little village on the other side of the estuary with many delicious dining spots of its own.
A trip to Canal Creek Adventure Park comes highly recommended. Here you can enjoy a vast assortment of rides including the log flume.
Make sure you take some time to visit Newquay dominated by the fantastic Headland Hotel which featured in the adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel ‘The Witches’. Visit the sleepy village of Port Isaac, the location of television show Doc Martin. Tintagel is a wonderful place to truly fire the imagination – it’s domineering cliff faces, Merlin’s cave and the castle where King Arthur was supposedly born.
The less touristy Bodmin is home to an interesting jail and the languishing Bodmin moor where many a hike can be had.
With so much to do, take some time to settle on the ideal itinerary for you and your loved ones. You really can’t take a wrong turn, but of course, you must try a traditional Cornish pastie on your travels!
