Wander its atmospheric streets, now full of independent shops and cafes and eateries for those non-self-catering days. The lovely sand and shingle beach is within 1 mile, so pack your beach towels for paddling and dips if you’re brave enough. Further afield, you can have a horticultural treat visiting the Lost Gardens of Heligan (7 miles), the Eden Project (3.5 miles) and Pinetum Gardens (1.5 miles). Dogs on leads are welcome in all three, bar the biomes at Eden Project.
