The village of Polgooth, which has its roots in tin mine, is today a peaceful community on the outskirts of St. Austell that attracts tourists who come to take in the region's breath-taking scenery. The community is only three miles from the ocean, and the south-west coastal route also passes nearby. It is also close to several wonderful beaches. The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the Tall Ships Harbour at Charlestown are just a 15-minute drive away from one other, among several other tourist sites in the vicinity. Only five miles separate the charming fishing village of Mevagissey from the picturesque Roseland Peninsula, which includes the towns of St. Mawes and St. Just-in-Roseland, and the passenger ferry that across the bay to Fowey.
