Guests say

Forge Cottage in Penzance, Cornwall, is praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the thoughtful welcome packs and find the location ideal for coastal walks and exploring West Cornwall. Some concerns about shower facilities and water pressure are noted, but overall, guests report a pleasant stay and express a desire to return.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as very clean and tidy, with one even stating it was the cleanest holiday cottage they've ever stayed in. The high level of cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive experiences reported.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to coastal paths, Sennen Cove, and Land's End. The convenience of nearby amenities and the ability to avoid parking charges at popular tourist spots are appreciated. Some guests mention road noise due to the A30, but it does not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.

The cottage is frequently described as comfortable and cosy, with good quality beds and a solid build that withstands wild weather. However, some guests mention issues with a hard mattress and suggest improvements to the shower facilities, which impacts the comfort score slightly.

Facilities such as the well-equipped kitchen, laundry machines, and multiple TVs are commended. However, there are repeated mentions of issues with the showers, water pressure, and the need for more cutlery and plates. These maintenance concerns slightly lower the score in this category.

Many guests mention and appreciate the welcome packs, which include treats like scones, clotted cream, jam, and wine. These gestures are noted as a highlight of their stay, adding a personal touch. However, it's important to note that such gifts, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A charming granite cottage with rolling countryside views as well as sea glimpses from the first floor, Forge Cottage enjoys a peaceful location not far from the beautiful Sennen Cove and iconic Land’s End. This part of Cornwall offers a true break from everyday life, far away from the crowds and with some of the most stunning scenery in the county. Making the very most of its traditional Cornish-cottage features, this immaculately presented family home offers an attractive and well-equipped retreat with everything you could need for a memorable stay. On the ground floor, there are two sitting rooms, providing plenty of space for everyone; one a cosy nook with a warming log burner, the other a wonderfully light and bright space with a glass ceiling and direct access to the garden.

The beautiful pale blue kitchen with its slate floor and quality appliances is a real treat for keen cooks – and leads through into a lovely dining room with farmhouse table and country-chic dresser. The spacious master bedroom is located on the ground floor, and has oodles of storage as well as wall-mounted television and lovely original beams. Upstairs, there are two further bedrooms – both doubles – one of which boasts a dressing room area. The garden at Forge Cottage is a real sun-trap, safe for children to play in and complete with picnic benches for summer evening barbecues. The long sandy beach at Sennen Cove is just a half-hour walk from the cottage; here, many happy days can be spent sunbathing, surfing and building sandcastles.

There is mile upon mile of coastal footpath in this area, too, so don't forget to pack your walking boots and discover wonderful sea vistas, engine house ruins and ancient stone circles that only the far west of Cornwall can offer.

The small fishing village of Sennen Cove is situated close to Land’s End in Cornwall. The village has a lifeboat station, church, a couple of shops, a café plus two popular gastropubs. The town of St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and has several monument and prehistoric antiquities, including a Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. The town also has a town hall, a church, shops and pubs, and Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times. Porthcurno, which has the outdoor Minack Theatre is situated 5 miles away. The village of Mousehole is within a short drive where stargazy pie can be sampled. Also within reach is the town of Penzance, which boasts winding streets, shops, clubs, restaurants and a harbour, from where day trips to the Scilly Isles can be enjoyed. A lovely base for your Cornwall adventure.

A lovely cottage in a great location for exploring a beautiful area. Fantastic walks right from door and a short walk to the beach. We didn’t want to leave.

The welcome pack was an added bonus. The proximity of the property to the A30, means road noise is constantly heard. Which isn't great if you're hoping for peace and quiet. But in general a really nice property.

King size mattress requires replacing, you feel every spring as previous occupants have reported. Tumble dryer inoperative during our stay which we reported. Downstairs shower is very small and the lack of a shower upstairs is strange as has the look of a recent renovation with modern bath and mixer tap. Off road parking is great but the cottage is on a bend so caution is required when reversing into the drive and pulling out of the drive. Would also advise that a large SUV or estate car may not fit but you have the option of parking at the nearby pub. No garden furniture apart from a picnic bench. Kitchen very well equipped with absolutely everything you need. Two great rooms for relaxing in with big tv’s, one room will sit three the other 6. Upstairs bedrooms are of good size with plenty of storage as is the ground floor bedroom. The cottage is right on the A30 but once inside you don’t hear the traffic and a great location to access Sennen Cove. The cottage has been listed on Rightmove since August 2023 so would make a great investment but with a bit of upgrading required. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Forge Cottage but does require some work. Would we book again - yes - provided the mattress was replaced!
