At nearby St Merryn, the Cornish Arms, owned by Rick Stein, is an ideal spot for a meal in the evening after a day on the beach, with a large beer garden for summer and log fires for autumn and winter. Nearby Padstow will be top of most people’s places to visit, and you will see why. A charming working fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches with cafes, pubs and restaurants ranging from fish and chips to Michelin stars. A must-do is to get the ferry over to the village of Rock and wander down the white sandy beaches, admiring the spectacular scenery, before returning to Rock for lunch at one of the eateries. For the sports-minded, there is a popular watersports centre with sailing, windsurfing, water skiing and canoeing all on offer. With Padstow also being the starting or finishing point of the Camel Trail, cyclists are well catered for, with a beautiful, nearly level, 18-mile trail passing through some of the most spectacular countryside you will ever see. Walkers will need no introduction to the world-famous South West Coast Path, offering amazing views and great walking in whatever direction you head.
