About this property

Launceston 3.8 miles. Resting in the centre of the Tamar Valley, tucked away in a forested area in St Giles on-the-Heath near Launceston, Cornwall, is this quirky, detached lodge of Scollas Lodge. Ideal for couples wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle, Scollas Lodge not only provides a lovely open-plan space to unwind in, but is completely eco-friendly, thanks to its up-cycled materials and locally-sourced wood - some of which is even from the surrounding woodland! Generous off-road parking welcomes you on arrival, along with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Make your way inside and be welcomed by the flickering flames of the woodburning stove, before kicking back and relaxing on the velvet sofa; why not enjoy a captivating book from the selection available, too? Move through the charming space to the kitchen, where wooden units behold a range of handy appliances, ideal for preparing easy meals! These meals can be savoured as a meal for two at the dining table, or enjoyed out in the sun on the veranda, where those views can be experienced first-hand. The lodge hosts a handy shower for you to soak in, whilst an eco-friendly, compost WC can be found externally. At the end of the day, snuggle up in the king-size bed and savour a well-deserved rest. A highlight of this property has to be the hot tub in the front area, where you can start or end your days with soothing soaks amidst the peaceful surroundings. Embark on a short journey into Launceston, a charming town steeped in history, which can be explored by touring the remains of Launceston Castle or boarding the Launceston Steam Railway; the town is also home to a great range of amenities, including the popular White Horse Inn pub, so you're well-catered to here! Spend some time on the Cornish coast by visiting Bude, where its lovely beaches, Bude Sea Pool and Compass Point are waiting to be discovered. For more fun on the coast, hike along the South West Coastal Path to Widemouth Bay, a picture-postcard village with a beach renowned for its fantastic surfing and a highly popular café serving up sweet treats. As you're on the Cornwall-Devon border, you truly have the best of both worlds at your feet, with Cornwall's heritage coasts to the north, and the enchanting Dartmoor National Park to the south. An unforgettable break for you and your partner awaits at the wonderful Scollas Lodge!

Launceston, on the Devon-Cornwall border, boasts beautiful architecture, including some magnificent Georgian buildings in the centre square, and is overshadowed by the remnants of a Norman castle high above the town. Visit Tamar Otter Park, which is only three miles away, or enjoy a five-mile round ride on the steam train from Launceston via the lovely Kensey Valley. A fantastic starting point for visiting Cornwall and Devon, choose Launceston for a relaxed break.

Cabin although in the woods was cosy (electric heaters available) and Rosie was welcoming and responsive to our messages throughout the stay. Cabin was very private in location. Advice for people staying for longer stays, bring some more utensils for cooking, only limited utensils which is ok for a long weekend but for a week you are restricted. Also bring your own towels. Only book if you are comfortable with the eco aspect, eco toilet and no hot water for the sink etc, as it says on the description so be prepared - do not expect any fancy mod cons.

The owners were very friendly, and so were their dogs! We will definitely be coming back!
