Guests say

Guests consistently praise the cottage for its superb location, stunning views, and tranquil setting. The property is described as cosy, well-equipped, and comfortable, with a beautiful garden and a peaceful lake. Hosts are commended for their friendliness and helpfulness. Despite some minor issues with cleanliness and Wi-Fi connectivity, the overall experience is highly regarded, making it a recommended stay for those seeking a peaceful retreat in Devon.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, with only a few mentioning that it could have been cleaner. The positive remarks suggest a high standard of cleanliness, although the few negative comments slightly affect the score.

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful views, and accessibility to local attractions in both Devon and Cornwall. The convenience of reaching main roads while enjoying a rural idyll contributes to the high score.

Guests frequently mention the comfort of the cottage, including the quality of the beds and sofas. The cosy atmosphere and the coolness of the house during hot weather are appreciated, indicating a very comfortable stay.

The cottage is well-regarded for its well-equipped kitchen and lovely garden. However, some guests experienced issues with Wi-Fi and mentioned that the bathrooms could be updated, which slightly lowers the score.

While guests express gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality, there are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.

About this property

A stone farmhouse cottage adjoined to the owner's own home set amidst rural countryside, close to the attractive village of Lifton on the Devon and Cornwall border. Jane’s Place is located on a smallholding amongst the country lanes near the Devon/Cornwall border, ideal for exploring both counties. There is an acre of stunning gardens for guests to wander in at leisure, with far-reaching views and a well-stocked lake and an abundance of wildlife. The cottage is conveniently placed just a few minutes’ drive from the A30, yet the peace and quiet is sure to relax guests as soon as they arrive. The cottage whilst having been tastefully modernised, is overflowing with character and charm, evident as you step over the threshold into the cosy sitting room. A large Inglenook fireplace takes centre stage, with original timber beams and whitewashed stone walls creating a wonderful cosy room to relax. A bespoke country kitchen/diner provides a cosy room for cooking local Lifton farm produce, sipping tea and relaxing with friends. There is the benefit of two bathrooms; a ground floor wet room and a first floor bathroom. The two bedrooms are spacious, light and overlook the beautiful gardens and countryside beyond. There are several options for garden areas with this cottage; the rear garden is enclosed, attracts the evening sun and has a BBQ – great for relaxing. Or guests can wander down to the lake, enjoy woodland walks around it or fish for tench, bream and roach. This is the ideal country escape with the Fox & Grapes, Arundell Arms and Lifton Farm Shop found in the village three miles away. Just four miles away is Roadford Lake, a fantastic day out for water activities, high rope walks or picnics. Enjoy the nature trails, the whole area is dog friendly and the café serves locally produced mouthwatering snacks and light lunches. Visit Dingles Fairground Heritage centre, numerous National Trust houses, Cowslip patchwork shop & café or Launceston castle and steam train. Bring your walking boots as this is perfect walking country with both Dartmoor and Bodmin within easy reach and for days on the beach head west to the North Cornish coast and the beaches of Bude, Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven, all reachable in a little over 40 minutes’ drive. Jane’s Place is a wonderfully secluded retreat with all the comforts of home, its central position perfect for discovering new places and enjoying the great outdoors.

Lifton is a village in the upper Tamar Valley, close to Launceston. It offers a shop and Post Office, a pub and three restaurants. It also has a farm shop/pick-your-own complex with a bakery and restaurant. Dartmoor and Bodmin are close, for countryside enthusiasts, while Launcestock, Tavistock and more are also worth visiting.

We've been before and will certainly be coming again.

Comfy beds. Nice sofas. Well equipped kitchen. Good WiFi with smart TV. Lovely gardens. If you like fishing you can try your hand at catching lovely little tench and crucians in the beautiful lake. We will hopefully return next year. One small caveat would be that someone with limited mobility would struggle with the stairs which are quite steep. All in all a lovely relaxing holiday

Probably one of the best we've stayed in and would certainly go back again. The owners were extremely nice and welcoming and most helpful.
