The cottage is just as described, beautifully furnished, nicely decorated and in a lovely surrounding. We had three problems leading to this poor evaluation: the parking, the frontdoor and the fumes. The next public parking is 150 yd away at the harbour. It was full. Driving to the cottage wasn't easy because of narrow and bending roads. So we cleared the luggage near the pub and took the next public parking nearly 650 yd up the hill. The roads in Polruan are really narrow. You can get to the cottage with patience, with heavy luggage it's not funny at all.Arriving at the frontdoor we had real trouble opening it. It stuck. One of us got through the backdoor pulling, another one pushing from the outside. If we hadn't help from a worker nearby, we would have failed opening the door. The threshold seemed to be the problem. We had the same problem closing the door again. And to the backdoor you can get through a small gate down a narrow stair. This is percetly fine if you can bring in the luggage through the frontdoor. But ... At least especially in the kitchen there was a chemical smell, fumes very hard to describe. We have some problems with asthma and these fumes where more than irritating. Two of us got an irritating itching right on the spot. So we couldn't stay there even one night. As we departed a neighbor asked, if we had some problems. We showed her the frontdoor, let her smell the fumes, and she agreed with us - leading us to her cottage - these fumes are not normal fumes of a house, not even at the seaside, where it might be a little bit more humid. So we really anticipated our stay at Polruan, we travelled from Germany because of the lovely description, the sorroundings. And most of it is perfectly true. There are the nice interiors, lovely arranged, there was a functional kitchen and a bathroom, quite big for a small cottage. For us it was a slap in the face. First time in my life, I left an accomodation prematurely and booked another one. And it was not an easy decision to be made ...

Not bad for price paid. Needs deep clean and updating. Lots of DIY required. Superb location though and comfortable for what we required.
