About this property

Situated at the heart of the coastal town of Falmouth in Cornwall, just a short walk from Gyllyngvase beach is the quaint holiday property, Melvill Lower Deck. Perfect for families or small groups of friends, this home serves as an ideal base for exploring Falmouth and the surrounding areas, and is well-positioned to explore an array of nearby attractions. Upon entering, journey down the small staircase where you will happen upon the open-plan living space, where you can cook up a storm and enjoy a delicious meal at the breakfast bar before curling up on the sofa to watch a film or two on the wall-mounted Smart TV. Inside you will also find two quaint double bedrooms and a single bedroom where you can retreat to as the evening draws to a close. Take a brief stroll to explore Falmouth town centre where you can sample some of the local cuisine at The Shed, enjoy the unique shops along the High Street, or a boat trip from the Old Custom House Quay to St Mawes or the Helford passage, or pay a visit to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Drop down Gyllyngvase Hill to the Beach and enjoy a drink or a meal at the legendary Gylly Beach Café. From there you can enjoy a walk round Pendennis Point, or across to Swanpool beach, enjoy a fantastic fish meal at Hooked on the Rocks, or take the coastal path to Maenporth and the Helford. Further afield is the city of Truro, home to the grand Truro Cathedral and the lush Victoria Gardens, which has the River Kenwyn rushing through it. You can take the train from Falmouth Town station and enjoy a scenic trip across the Perranwell Viaduct to Truro. Stop at Manning's Bar and Restaurant when you're feeling peckish, or head to Hooked! Enjoy a refreshing break with your nearest and dearest at Melvill Lower Deck.

Falmouth will keep you entertained for hours with its stunning natural harbour (the third largest in the world), winding alleys, and beaches. The town's historic taverns along the harbour, first-rate stores, art gallery, and spectacular National Maritime Museum only round off the experience. The most well-known sight in Falmouth is Henry viii's Pendennis Castle, which is situated on a peninsula with stunning panoramic sea views. The lovely village of St. Mawes is located across from Falmouth Harbour and is encircled by the rocky coves, sandy beaches, and verdant landscape of the Roseland Peninsula. Take the passenger boat from Falmouth or drive the 15 kilometres there (15 minutes). Swanpool Nature Reserve, a lagoon and site of special scientific significance teeming with a variety of animals, are available for anyone who likes the outdoors. There is a golf course as well. Falmouth has such a wide range of attractions and a beautiful setting that it is guaranteed to entice you back time and time again.

Had everything we needed and we managed to book at the last minute as we had late cancellation on Airbnb. Very cosy cottage and pet friendly. There was parking which I was very happy about. The only small problem is that I couldn’t get no reception on my phone other than that it was a great stay and would definitely recommend.

It was clean, exactly as described and the location is amazing. A five minute walk to either the beach or town centre, we could easily have not used the car the whole time we were there. We would definitely consider staying again.

If staying for longer with more people could have done with a bigger table. Extractor fan in bathroom ran constantly, not a problem with door shut but would be using up electric. Very well equipped.
