Towel the dogs off in the generous hallway and leave them to snooze – perhaps accompanying you doing the same in the snug area? The lounge is a lovely, large space with wooden floors and flooded with light from the big bay window. There’s also an open-plan kitchen/diner that is well-equipped and seats six. Upstairs, take your pick from one double, one twin and one en-suite master double bedroom. Individually styled, they all promise comfort and calm for a great night’s sleep. The lovely garden is full enclosed and tiered so kids and dogs will have a ball. It offers outdoor seating on the lower patio area, sun loungers on the lawn as well as a charcoal BBQ.

Get to grips with Bude. Summerleaze Beach is within 0.5 miles and there are plenty of amenities to make your stay stress-free. Mooch about the independent shops, cafes and galleries. Alternate dog walks along Bude Canal and the beach for a bit of variety. Don’t forget the cliff tops and coastal path, either. Cross the canal and river to take a dip or even paddleboard in the quirky Bude Sea Pool, a semi-natural tidal pool where you can safely swim – for free! The National Trust’s Sandymouth Bay Beach is 3 miles north, while Widemouth Bay is the same to the south.
