Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with several guests finding the property to be in need of a deeper clean, particularly under beds and kitchenware, while others reported it as clean and welcoming. The score reflects this variation in guest experiences.

The location is highly praised for its convenience to local shops, pubs, and attractions like the New Forest. The village's charm and the property's quiet setting contribute to a high score in this category.

Guests have mixed feelings about comfort; some found the bed and sofa uncomfortable, while others had a pleasant stay. The garden adds to the comfort of the property, but the issues with some furniture affect the score.

Facilities are generally good, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and a powerful shower. However, some guests noted poor condition of cooking pans and lack of Wi-Fi. The score reflects the balance between the well-received and the criticised aspects.

Several guests mentioned thoughtful touches like a warm welcome with the heating turned on, and gifts such as wine and biscuits. However, as these are not consistently mentioned by all reviewers, the score is not perfect and it's noted that such gestures are not guaranteed.

About this property

Pop’s Barn is named after the owner’s grandfather and is a secret little hideaway behind the high street in the bustling village of Downton. Walking down a narrow path leading off a side lane, you stumble upon this pretty brick building set in its own private walled garden.

Despite its seclusion, the cottage is perfectly located for the numerous attractions this popular area has to offer. Pop’s Barn has been well designed to maximise its small interior spaces making a cosy retreat for two people.

Inside, the décor is most certainly traditional, with wooden floors and wooden beams through walls and ceilings adding to the period design. Spread across one level there is one double bedroom behind a curtained opening, with ensuite shower room with shower and WC. Open plan living/dining area with sofa bed.

The large garden can provide comfort and relaxation for plenty of guests, with the outdoor furniture being used for al fresco dining in its pretty and sunny garden. The village of Downton rests on the banks of the River Avon, conveniently in between the Cranborne Chase AONB and the New Forest National Park. Pop’s Barn is a superb base for those looking to explore the area, with a small range of local amenities to answer your needs.

The Cranborne Chase will be right on your doorstep, offering a network of scenic walking and cycling paths passing a number of charming villages. Pop’s Barn offers all this and more to those visiting.

Downton is right next to the edge of the New Forest which has an almost limitless array of superb walks and rides, and free-roaming ponies at every turn. Slightly farther afield are the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum with its Roman connections, and beautiful stretches of coast; the South West Coast Path starts in Poole Harbour. Downton itself is a very pleasant village with a good selection of shops and pubs, and the River Avon flowing through the middle.

Disgusting drity oven, rusty and dirty microwave, table covered in crumbs, kettle badlyneeds descaling, teapot filthy. Settee very uncomfortable and needs replacing. It is a lovely cool hide away and nice garden. Just need a deep clean and some TLC.

Lovely pubs just a walk away. Good location to go to the New Forest.

The information given about the items in the cottage, the bins and the village and its surrounds was excellent. When the weather was fine and sunny we could leave the cottage door open and sit in the delightful garden. However when chilly and/or raining this was not possible and we could smell damp and felt rather hemmed in due to the outlook being below the garden ground level. We could smell damp when lying in bed. I would say that its up to the owner if she would like this published.
