Accommodation In the heart of wonderful Sussex countryside. A perfect retreat for a week away.
Your destination awaits at the end of its own private lane. The Granary is a first floor apartment converted from a barn that is situated next to the owner's own home within an enclosed courtyard garden and set in overall grounds of eight acres that includes a paddock and large pond. The Granary has two bedrooms, one double with en suite shower, one single bedroom and a bathroom with shower over the bath. This is perfect tranquility in the heart of the Sussex Weald and the first floor setting affords beautiful views across open Sussex countryside and towards the South Downs.
The Granary is spacious and well equipped and gives you every opportunity for a restful stay. Yet it is not too remote; the Hare and Hounds at the other end of the lane is barely a mile away for a drink and evening meal, and Cowfold's other pub The Coach House is also in close proximity with the local shop situated between the two.
Cowfold and beyond
Public footpaths extend across the fields from the Granary making possible a number of circular walks. Heading a mile south of Cowfold is the Cartusian Monastery, just beyond that is Littleworth and Moon Wood, then on to Clockhouse Farm and the return back to Cowfold via the church of St Peter's under its Horsham stone roof - a pleasant round trip.
Walk or cycle south on The Downs Link from the old railway station at West Grinstead and you are soon enjoying beautiful views of the Downs as you head towards the market towns of Henfield and Steyning.
The South Downs are within easy reach with the popular vantage point of Devil's Dyke and the picturesque villages of Poynings and Fulking at the foot of the Downs. These villages give wonderful views of the Fulking Escarpment and the line of the Downs are worth seeing from here. They are only a few minutes drive south from Henfield and both have fine country pubs.
Five miles to the north Horsham is a fine historic market town which features four historic areas, Bishopric, Carfax, Causeway and Normandy - names believed to be almost unique to the town. The Causeway is a tree lined avenue with medieval and period properties that leads down to the parish church of St Mary's and Normandy, a quiet area found beside the church while the Carfax, originally a meeting of four ways, is now a relaxing place to stop and enjoy a coffee.
Here is just a taste, there are also many historic houses and gardens in the area, including Borde Hill, Nymans and Wakehurst Place all within an easy drive.

The Granary is an ideal, comfortable, peaceful place to just be & to explore Sussex. Great road connections without road noise! So many places within easy reach & helpful info provided. We especially appreciated the specific Cowfold Ordnance Survey map which was great for exploring the innumerable & well signed footpaths.
