The Old Forge Stables originally dates back to the 17th Century. Stylish interiors now seamlessly blend with modern architecture to provide a stunning bolthole in the pretty village of Shipton-under-Wychwood.
This stunning conversion has been extended to provide a modern open-plan living space with full height glass gable end opening out onto the private tiered patio. Ideal for couples (sorry no children) at any time of year, there is a wood burner for those long winter nights and air conditioning for those balmy summer days.
Two tastefully furnished en-suite bedrooms now replace the two horse stables and hayloft in the original stone building. A modern open staircase leads to the upper floor and a new mezzanine level where you can relax with a book or just take in the views. And to top it off there is a tennis court available all year round for the more energetic guests.
Sustainable technology has been incorporated into the refurbishment with Air Source Heat Pump for underfloor heating and an array of discreet solar panels for electricity generation. An electric vehicle charging point is also available for guests to book use of if required.
Shipton-under-Wychwood is a great base for those who would like a taste of village life. With a short walk you can pick up your morning paper, whilst the two village pubs, The Wychwood Inn, and The Lamb Inn offer a choice of local ales and delightful food.

We had a great week staying in this very comfortable and well appointed cottage. A great centre to visit the many sights in the area. Kiftsgate as unknown to us and was fabulous. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

We chose Old Forge Stables based on design and photos on the other side of the world. We were not at all disappointed but delighted. This is a beautiful cottage for a Cotswold stay. We have re-explored the area 10 days, this time the stand-outs have been Blenheim - both gardens and palace, Daylesford Organic and Thyme Estate at Southrop. We will recommend Old Forge Stables to any and all who will listen. Many thanks to our host Howard, and to his architect son for a stunning project.
