A little further afield you will find the famous, Medieval town of Burford, with its array of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants (3.5 miles), whilst the bustling market town of Chipping Norton lies just 6 miles to the north. The beautiful town of Woodstock, with Blenheim Palace (the birth place of Winston Churchill) lies just 10 miles away. You are also within easy reach of the historic university city of Oxford (20 miles).

The flourishing, rural market town of Saffron Walden sits amidst lovely Essex countryside, in a superb location within easy reach of the town of Bishop’s Stortford and the beautiful city of Cambridge. Saffron Walden is home to a number of medieval buildings, making it a fascinating place for a leisurely stroll. A market has been held within the town since 1141 and is still held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Within the town’s attractive common area there is the largest turf maze in England. There is also a Victorian hedge maze in the nearby beautiful Bridge End Gardens, which are maintained by local volunteers and really are worth a visit. There is a fantastic museum based in the grounds of the ruined castle keep, housing oddities such as mammoth tusks. Within easy reach are Cambridge, the Imperial War Museum at Duxford and English Heritage’s Audley End house and gardens. Saffron Walden really is a beautiful market town, steeped in history and well worth a visit at any time of the year.
