Belleville occupies a truly fantastic position with commanding views in Tunbridge Wells. Ready to welcome 8 guests in 5 bedrooms the house has been loved and admired by many for decades. It is a landmark property and has been lovingly restored and refurbished over the years and built into the sandstone rocks of the town. The house is located on Royal Tunbridge Wells common, yet it is totally central, and is positioned immediately in front of the main walk into town. Not much has been documented on the house historically, but it is known that Belleville is approximately 300 years old. Thackeray stayed here as a young man, and later made reference to it in his book Vanity Fair. To this day, it always attracts attention and intrigue. In under 5 mins walk to town you will be surrounded with an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars.
Inside has a warm, quirky yet quality and historic feel with rich furnishings and fabrics, wooden panelled rooms, and wooden floors. The house has 4 bathrooms, 3 of which are ensuite, over 3 floors and there is air conditioning in some bedrooms. The upper floor is the old butlers quarters and is delightful with small rooms and a heavily eaved roof. There is so much history here and even a cellar!

The property was very quirky, had a lot of character and was in a good location. Overall we had an enjoyable stay but there were a few basic items missing that caused some annoyance, which we would have expected to have been available in a property sleeping this many people. Namely: Corkscrew, Measuring jug, Baking tray, Whisk, Seive, Large glasses, A kitchen bin, Any other bins!We ended up having to go out and buy a few of these items so that we could cook meals.A few things that could have been better:More than 10 Dishwasher tabletsMore Mugs Local information on stuff to doInfo on the thermostat for the main CH systemUnreliable power and temp of water in showerOnly one showerThere was a car parked in the driveway when we arrived so we had to park on the street and ask for this to be moved
