The charming town of Broadstairs is very picturesque with seven superb beaches, Viking Bay with its unique marina, attractive cottages, historic buildings including Dickens Bleak House and all amenities set on cobbled streets. It also offers superb golf facilities at North Foreland, crazy golf and a period cinema reflecting the quaintness of this attractive town which seats 110 people. The popular seaside resorts of Ramsgate and Margate are within easy reach, two towns that make essential viewing whilst in this part of the country.

A welcoming residence, Lavender Lodge can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Broadstairs, known as The Jewel in Thanet's Crown, has been a popular place for centuries. The town offers Blue Flag sandy beaches, fishermen's cottages, Victorian architecture, hidden cobbled streets, clifftop walks, and Bleak House, which was once the Summer home of Charles Dickens. There are also many independent shops, butchers, bakers, tea rooms, gift and antique shops, a quaint old independent cinema, crazy golf and even a teddy bear hospital! This area of Kent offers a variety of excursions and activities, including the Turner Contemporary gallery, Dreamland Pleasure Park or fascinating Shell Grotto in Margate, Dover with its famous white cliffs and castle, Dickens World in Chatham, the cathedral city of Canterbury, wildlife parks, gardens ...and all of London's attractions are only an hour and a quarter away by train! In addition, the area boasts arguably the most spectacular stretch of golf courses in the south of England including Open Championship venue Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports at Deal - host to the 2013 Amateur Championship. The local town of Whitstable is lovely to explore with fantastic eating options and a chance to try the famous Whitstable native oysters. For those looking for peace and relaxation, why not walk or cycle the Viking Coastal Trail? This pathway leads from Broadstairs to neighbouring coastal towns, including Ramsgate. Or for longer walks access the North DOwns way which winds through the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And with the Channel Tunnel just 40 minutes' away, or ferries available from Dover, you could enjoy lunch in France. Historic and quaint this town may be, but if live music is your interest, then you are truly spoilt for choice! Most of the bars and pubs hold music nights throughout the year, where you can listen to everything from blues to folk, with the Blues Bash held every February and Folk Week every August, each attracting people from all over the world. Or, visit Dickens Week, every June, the annual Broadstairs water gala at the end of August or the outstanding Food Festival held every October.

Felt very homely- perhaps too much so. Too many knick knacks on window ledges in kitchen and bathroom for my liking. I prefer clear spaces to put things. The shower wasn't great for even flow and as a person with arthritis, I found the bath difficult to negotiate, but that's a lesson learned on my part. The frying pans were not non stick as my husband found when trying to fry fish. My daughter liked the air fryer as she is used to them. The kitchen was overflowing with mugs and utensils, unlike our previous cottage which just had 4 of everything. I really enjoyed staying at the property so thanks to the owner.

The address wasn't recognised by Gmaps. Had we been told to park at the Ramsgate Rd end of Park Avenue I'd have found it more easily. Lavender Lodge and Prior Close do NOT have a road of their own. There is a footpath off Park Avenue. This should be clearly stated. Parking near the footpath is challenging on Fridays and over the weekend. So expect to carry your luggage a bit further than you may expect. Very pleased to find the Loop Bus stop on Ramsgate Rd. With the petrol shortage while we stayed we used buses and trains to get about. We saved our petrol to ensure we could get home ! The owner was very helpful and met me on arrival. He explained how the facilities worked and was very welcoming.

No complaints, and we may well book again for next year. One minor niggle - the Sykes description suggests the property is walking distance from the beach. This comment is stretching it a bit, especially if their are young children in tow.
