The Jolly Boat is a five-bedroomed holiday home, situated alongside the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch narrow gauge railway line and open fields. A perfect peaceful retreat for large families and friends to gather and explore the local area. A well-equipped kitchen to prepare meals, a spacious living room with a log burner and private garden to enjoy the sunshine. Built around 1909 by the RFC Royal Flying Corps by 1919 the RFC moved to Manston and the four airfield buildings were acquired by a local builder and converted into dwellings, two of which were purchased by the author Edith Nesbit (The Railway Children) with her husband who had been the skipper of the Woolwich ferry, they named them Long Boat and Jolly Boat. The property has several pieces of furniture owned by the author which remain in use to this day.
The sandy beach of St Marys Bay is a 10-minute stroll from the property, past a family friendly pub, local supermarket, and traditional fishmongers. A vast beach at low tide is ideal for beach games and ideal for flying kites with a promenade that takes you to Dymchurch and beyond, safe for cyclists old and young. New Romney high street, home to independent retailers, restaurants and a local supermarket is a 5-minute drive from the property.
The miniature railway runs from Hythe and stops at Dymchurch, St Marys Bay, New Romney, Romney Sands and Dungeness which is a truly unique location. A haven for artists and fisherfolk alike, visit Derek Jarman’s house and garden, climb the lighthouse, view local artists work in their studios, the rspb reserve and have locally caught fish at the local inn and restaurant.
The Romney Marsh is known for its natural beauty, sense of solitude and big skies and has been dubbed the "Fith continent" in recognition of its uniqueness. Local attractions include Littlestone golf club, Cinemarsh 46 seat cinema, and Lydd Karting circuit. Visit the Romney Marsh visitor’s centre to make the most of your time in the area.

This cottage has a wonderful history, you can feel the warmth as you walk in. A really comfortable and homely cottage, the kitchen is very well equipped for cooking and the large kitchen table perfect to fit the family around. The bedrooms were so comfortable and the living room large enough for a snug TV watch and a space to read. Obviously the hugh selling point is the steam railway that passes the cottage, we had great fun travelling up and down the line to explore different places. The cottage is also perfectly placed for a short car ride to Port Lympne, we had a brilliant day there.

We chose Jolly boat due to its location to the small railway for my grandson and this did not disappoint.The local pub was very disappointing as it was a local rather than somewhere to get a meal.

Our family love the Jolly Boat because of its location. The Grandkids love its proximity to the RHDR Track so they can see most of the trains as they go past. The Grandparents are becoming more infirm and find the step-up shower a challenge and most comfort seating is too low to use since getting up is nigh impossible: So we bring our old camping chairs and cushions to use for the small amount of time we get settled from our active holiday.
