About this property

A unique former Coastguard Lookout Tower, it's one of the most spectacularly located properties in the country. Being a few steps from the water, it's perfect for a romantic getaway.

Wake to the sound of the sea, explore the dramatic landscape with its renowned light, then warm up in the atmospheric pubs of Romney Marsh, stroll along the shingle beach, look out across the vast open sea and you’ll feel like you've arrived in another world.

Stay at Coastguard Lookout and discover a fascinating landscape full of myth and legend, surrounded by the haunting vastness of Romney Mash, a flat, open landscape of wide skies with a backdrop of the eerie and majestic Nuclear Power station.

Dungeness, Britain’s only desert, with its wild landscape, is intensely peaceful, there are dramatic views in every direction. Coastguard Lookout is a warm and welcoming place converted by renowned interior architecture firm Johnson Naylor who retained the original 50’s structure whilst cleverly transforming the interior using the highest quality fittings and materials, crafted so that it sensitively retains echoes of it’s former function overlooking the Channel. The unique layout will appeal to those looking for something cosy, contemporary and different.

The tower offers much of the creature comforts, holiday makers have come to expect, including underfloor heating, beautiful lime stone floors, Wifi, and a log burner in the sitting room, ideal for those crisp winter breaks, watching an endless procession of ships on the horizon through the panoramic windows, with on clear days glimpses of Cap Gris Nez, the closest point of France to England.

Built originally as a HM Coastguard radar monitoring station for shipping in the Channel, when this role was no longer needed with the advent of GPS, the building was converted as a studio and weekend home for a growing family, into this contemporary home, the perfect location for a holiday away from the routine and stress of modern life.

A spectacular and very special place. An inspirational conversion.

Cottage was solitary, on exposed shingle beach. Poor maintenance and indifferent cleaning issues in every room. Rusty old Fireplace, grate FULL of ash, dishwasher full of dishes, and dust on furniture- for £605 ? Nearby pubs/eateries closed, jammed front door key issues, shabby woodwork and lots of metallic surfaces; our April 2016 visit there was disappointing. Even the nuclear power station 400 metres away (google it) didn't charm long.

Property was stunning and a real treat. One issue not to be undervalued , it was cold, and not being able to influence the heating is not fair considering it's supposed to be a treat. It really effected our stay , the wood burner was useless. A real shame.
