About this property

Set amidst Romney Marsh and with lovely views this is a perfect bolthole away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A comfortable cottage for 2 with a west facing garden to sit and watch the stunning sunsets, enjoy nature and make the most of the peace and quiet.

In a stunning location on Romney Marsh, adjacent to the Owner's farmhouse where they have farmed Romney Marsh sheep for several generations is this secluded peaceful little cottage for two.  Appropriately named after the marsh mallow a rare marsh plant that grows near the farmhouse and on which the marsh mallow moth feeds and lays its eggs, this is a perfect spot for birdwatching and  enjoying the local flora and fauna.  The surrounding countryside is ideally suited to exploring by bicycle or by  one of the many footpaths.  The surrounding pasture is a haven for wildlife and is a site of special scientific interest, there are stunning views across the marsh from the patio and sitting room where you can also sit and watch the sunsets.  Almost opposite the farm is the footpath to the iconic and atmospheric St. Thomas a Becket church (collect the huge door key from the neighbour's house!) one of the fourteen churches scattered across the marsh, it has no churchyard and  sits completely alone amidst the marsh where the sheep graze up to the door and use the church to shelter from the sun or bad weather.  The nearby village of Appledore which is just 3 miles has a village shop, a good public house and an excellent tea rooms and railway station.  The medieval cinque port of Rye with its beautiful cobbled streets tumbling down the hillside and history of smuggling is only a 15 minute drive and offers some great restaurants, Jempson's supermarket, independent shops, art galleries potteries and museums not forgetting the famous Mermaid Inn! For a day at the beach head for Camber Sands where there is a stunning stretch of sandy beach backed by sand dunes, where you can also try sand yachting, wind surfing, Kite Surfing. This really is an escape form modern day life, but be warned that you may not want to return to it, after evenings spent being serenaded by frogs in the Spring or the call of the marsh birds and the bleating lambs by day.   Shop: 3 miles   Pub: 3 miles   Coast: 8.8 miles
