About this property

Settled within the Bloomsbury Retreat on the outskirts of Biddenden in Kent, is this wonderful two-bedroom detached cabin, Mallard Lodge. Enjoying a fabulous location overlooking the lake and benefitting from an on-site farm shop and restaurant, Mallard Lodge is a fantastic dwelling for couples who are seeking a romantic getaway with a difference. Be welcomed into the spacious open-plan living space, with a stylish, well-equipped kitchen, featuring black and bronze cabinetry, where you can look forward to conjuring up flavourful meals to impress your guests. Throw open the French doors and serve up a delicious meal at the dining table for four, as you pop open a bottle of celebratory fizz and soak up the exceptional lake views on offer. After dinner, why not catch the last of the day’s rays out on the small, decked balcony? As the evening cools, retire to the sitting room where you and your loved ones can relax on the plush seating and enjoy a much-loved film on the TV as the evening’s entertainment. After a day of exploring, pour in the bubbles and indulge in a soak in the wood panelled bathroom or freshen up with a hot shower. When sleep calls, retreat to one of two well-presented king-size bedrooms to catch your rest, one of which features its own en-suite shower room. Explore your idyllic surroundings, where you will find the welcoming Thistle and Rose store and Artisan Café, here you can treat yourself to a sweet treat and a warming cup of tea. There is also an on-site restaurant where you can dine out with your loved ones, perfect for when you don’t fancy cooking! If you fancy broadening your horizons whilst on holiday, Bloomsburys offers a wonderful selection of activities including yoga and Pilates, a spa where you can book pampering treatments and use the terrace hot tub and sauna, the herbary where you can purchase natural goods and also book in for treatments and consultations, a chiropractor, hair salon and therapies. Bloomsburys is on the outskirts of Biddenden village itself, from the site it’s a pleasant walk into the village, where you will find the local pub The Red Lion, the Bakehouse cafe for breakfast and brunches, along with The West House, a fine dining restaurant owned and run by Graham Garratt. You are also a short distance from the well-known Three Chimneys pub, where you can savour tasty food and local beers. A well-stocked village shop and post office can also be found here, where you can pick up essentials. There are beautiful circular walks from Bloomsburys across open countryside and enchanting woods. The village of Biddenden is also home to a Squash and Tennis Club. From the Wild Rose you are a short drive from Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens; alternatively, you can embark on a good walk from the Wild Rose to find the renowned, family-run Biddenden Vineyards, where tours, tastings and visits to the on-site shop can be enjoyed. Hush Heath Vineyards, and Chapel Down are two more well established local vineyards that are well worth a visit; a little further afield, you will find Sedlescombe BioDynamic Vineyards, where they provide tours, tastings, lunch and afternoon tea. In the local area there are golf courses a plenty, the nearest one being at London beach Hotel in St Michaels and Chart Hills in Biddenden; if angling’s more your thing, there are many local fishing lakes, such as at Green Acres, Cackle Hill or Hawhurst Fishing Lakes. Why not try your hand at horse riding, which is available at the Apple Tree Stables in Sissinghurst and Bedgebury Forest? Not only does the Bedgebury Pinetum offer great horse riding opportunities, but it is a fantastic local attraction dating back to the Victorian times which is now home to Go Ape. Another superb outing is Leeds Castle, which also hosts a Go Ape as well as Segway tours. You’re within reach of Ashford, a town which boasts a designer outlet, where you can enjoy a spot of retail therapy, browsing bargains from lots of iconic, high street names. The village of Headcorn isn’t far, a short drive away, featuring a local supermarket as well as access to a main line train station, from which you can board trains to London’s Charing Cross very regularly. The unique port town of Tenterden is also within reach, hosting a beautiful high street with vintage shops, two supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, along with a leisure centre housing an indoor swimming pool and gym. Rye is a marvellous town nearby and is well worth a visit; here you will find the delights of Camber Sands and Dungeness, where you can windsurf and kite surf, before exploring the town’s many historic buildings, cobbled streets and underground passageways which date back to pirate and smugglers times; don’t forget to pay the independent cinema of Kino a visit! Hastings is a great place for sightseeing, with its Pier, Old Town, music scene, theatre and picture house taking centre stage. For even more sightseeing, be sure to visit Cranbrook, where a pretty high street with boutique shops, a windmill and museum await. Escape to Kent in style with a stay at Mallard Lodge. Even in October we were warm and cosy with the underfloor heating. The beds and sofas were comfy. Your own private pond and decking with ducks and moorhens. The whole site had a great ambiance, especially the restaurant. It was quiet, and we felt totally chilled.
