Nestled amongst a sea of woodland countryside is The Hermitage; a beautiful, recently renovated country house with just over 11 acres of mature grounds with attractive country and sea views.
They say that first impressions are the most important, and when you walk into the spacious entrance hall and see the grand staircase which welcomes you to come and see the rest of this spectacular house you won’t be disappointed. The Hermitage is awash with a modern style of class from the renovation and an old fashioned authenticity which you can only truly find in the original wooden floorboards and the open fireplaces of a country house.
To the left of the staircase you will find an elegant panelled room which has access to the terrace and garden by two sets of French doors and for the more competitive of you there is a games room next door. Here you will find a pool table and table tennis and for those of you who want to work out there is also a separate gym with a tread mill, exercise bike and weights with an en suite shower room.
Upstairs there is a choice of 10 bedrooms all with either en suite shower or bath or rear or garden views. To house the bookworms of the party there is a reading area on the landing with stunning views of the manicured front garden, a perfect little setting for some peace and quiet whilst will digging into a good book.
Why not refine your holiday further and hire a local caterer to provide a welcome meal on your arrival? You could enjoy some real pampering with a mobile beauty therapist or how about hiring a hot tub! Even the children can be catered for with a Children’s Entertainer by prior arrangement.

...during the half term break, I can honestly say it was the perfect accommodation for us in every way. On arrival, we were all blown away by the beauty of the grounds and house itself and it was in a very secluded, therefore safe location. We were met by the Property Manager (Suzanne) who took the time to show us around the house and everything was in pristine condition. Being a group of 19 (10 adults and 9 children - ranging from 2 to 8 years old) we are always nervous about how a holiday home would cater for our needs and accommodate so many of us under one roof, but we were all blown away by the sheer size of the house and there was ample room for all of us… and then some. The sleeping quarters were fantastic, extremely clean, spacious (especially the 4 “Master” bedrooms) and tastefully decorated, with all rooms having en-suite facilities. There were travel cots and beds available making it easy to juggle the room configurations when the inevitable happened on the first night with the older children ending up in one room together! The en-suite bathrooms were all clean, modern and well stocked. What really made our stay perfect however, was the living quarters downstairs. The Kitchen was large and spacious with casual dining for the children’s dinner time and ideal for family breakfasts together. The formal dining room across the hall provided a great setting for the adult meals and, like the rest of the house, was beautifully presented and wanted for nothing. The garden provided a very safe and enjoyable environment for the kids and they were out there playing practically every minute that we were home. That said, the grounds are quite large so you do have to be vigilant keeping an eye on the little ones. The games room was well-stocked and provided us with the dream “Man Cave” to escape to, to enjoy Table Tennis, Pool and board games galore. There was also a large variety of outdoor games to play on the lawn with, so The Hermitage had thought of everything. As if this was not enough, there was also an additional play room for the younger children and a quiet TV room for the adults to find a few minutes of peace. It was only a 10-minute drive to nearby Ventnor, where there is a beach and a good selection of pubs and restaurants. We also recommend Blackgang Chine theme park which is again only 10 minutes away, The Wight Mouse Inn for it’s great food and outdoor play area, Steephill Cove for some of the best seafood around and finally Coasteering in Freshwater Bay for those more adventurous. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend The Hermitage to anyone and will definitely be returning again as I think we will struggle to find a holiday home that ticks so many boxes for our needs. ...hotel but has now been tastefully modernised and with 10 good sized ensuite bedrooms it fitted our extended family of 17, perfectly. Situated near the south east corner of the Isle and up a mile long drive, we expected it to be a bit remote, but that was not the case. Though a car is essential you can be in Ventnor in 15/20 mins and in local shops in under 10.There are large ,well tended grounds around which are great for the children to play in (including a separate and new play area with slides swings ,wendy house etc). The house is a short,steep 400yard climb to the lovely St Catherine's Down and the Hoy Monument. Inside, the house is excellent. A superb modern Kitchen and dining areas which can seat 20 or more if required are the centre of the house, while there is a great and well equipped games room and a mini gym. Ther are also several other rooms which we found very useful as some of the children were able to study for exams, in peace! This is the ninth time we have holidayed together as a group for a week. We have been in Devon north and south. Hereford, Norfolk, Dorset and elsewhere on the isle of wight. By popular acclaim, this location has been the best of a very good bunch.
