Full Fibre to the Premises (fttp) 900 Mb/s connection - dazzlingly fast WiFi. No smoking.. If you’re holidaying with friends or family this is the perfect base for a holiday on the Isle of Wight. The living room has comfortable seating for all guests and with a Blu-ray player and Xbox 360 with Kinect and games, everyone will be entertained even if the weather is not in your favour. There is also an under-stairs cupboard with a wide selection of board games. Upstairs, the bedrooms and bathroom are furnished in neutral colours and comfy beds make a great place to retire after exploring the area.
From the dining area, French doors lead outside to an enclosed back garden, perfect for your children to let off some steam. For those days when the mild climate of this temperate island really takes hold, enjoy a meal outside at the garden table and chairs complete with a parasol offering welcome shade.
There’s parking for two cars on the drive so when you’re ready to go exploring just jump in and go! Located between Yarmouth and Newport, Shalfleet village makes a good base for exploring the island. Newtown Creek National Nature Reserve is on your doorstep and attractions such as The Needles, Tapnell Farm Park and Carisbrooke Castle are within easy reach. There is a family friendly pub with outside play area within a 15 minute walk.

I chose this property based on the reviews and photographs advertised, but unfortunately, I do not feel these gave an accurate representation of the condition of the property and am utterly shocked by the positive reviews. From the moment we arrived, there were significant concerns regarding the cleanliness and hygiene of the property.There was an unpleasant smell throughout the property. The kitchen floor had crumbs on it and there were cobwebs hanging from the kitchen units. The cutlery and cups were dirty and had to be washed before we could use them. The BBQ utensils were also covered in dust and dead bugs, and there were dead bugs around the property.The garden had not been swept and still had leaves and debris throughout it, and the outdoor table had not been cleaned.The bathroom also appeared not to have been cleaned properly. There was toothpaste around the outside of the sink, and I had to clean both the sink and bath before we felt comfortable using them. The towels had a particularly unpleasant smell and, again, had to be washed before we were prepared to use them (luckily the property did have a washing machine)! There was also hair throughout the property, to the extent that if you dropped something, it would be covered in hair. It was very clear that the property had not been thoroughly hoovered for some time, particularly around the edges and skirting boards, which appeared to have been left untouched for a considerable period. The windows were also extremely dirty and looked as though they had not been cleaned for some time.Most concerningly, the beds had both human and pet hair all over them. I genuinely do not believe the bedding had been changed immediately before our arrival. It is difficult to understand how fresh bedding could have been put on the beds without the amount of hair being noticed. The beds certainly did not feel or smell fresh, which was particularly upsetting given that this is somewhere guests should be able to sleep comfortably and hygienically.Finally, and most concerningly, when we arrived home I noticed that my child had a number of bite marks. I took him to a pharmacist, who obviously could not confirm the cause, but advised that the bites were consistent with bed bug bites. I appreciate that this does not confirm that there were bed bugs at the property, but given the condition of the bedding and the cleanliness issues we experienced, it was understandably very concerning.The owner, Frazer, did contact me on the first day of our stay to ask whether there was anything we required. However, at the time, I did not feel it was appropriate to mention all of these issues during our stay. I did not want cleaners coming into the property while we were there, and I also felt that the extent of the cleaning required was substantial and could not realistically have been resolved within a few hours.There were chickens in next doors garden which were fed around 5:45 each morning and were very loud and this did affect our sleep. Obviously this is not a fault of the property itself but worth mentioning if you do like your sleep. I contacted Frazer on the day we left to explain our experience and sent him photographs. I do want to acknowledge that Frazer was very pleasant and provided excellent customer service. He did not argue with me or dismiss my concerns. He said he was shocked by our experience as he had only received positive reviews for the property and offered us a complimentary week’s stay. However, having reflected on the situation, I did not feel comfortable returning to the property.Based on our experience, I could not recommend this property and I have raised the issues above.

Nice holiday home, very well equipped. Welcome pack very thoughtful. Beds were very comfortable. Good shower. Having a tumble dryer is always a bonus! Great WiFi both upstairs and downstairs. Excellent value for money. Would definitely come again.
