This picture postcard Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back to 1676 and is attractively situated at the end of a quiet lane, with a lovely ford and footpath leading to the nearby medieval castle. The cottage is located in the oldest part of Carisbrooke village which is a Conservation Area, lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The castle is only 0.3 miles away and can be glimpsed from the garden and main bedrooms. This is a wonderful walking area as within a short stroll of the cottage visitors can see local ponds, fords, a historic farm with its Cowshed antiques emporium, the lovely local church and a priory serving afternoon teas. In addition, the famous Tennyson Trail starts nearby which follows the downs westerly towards The Needles. Two popular Mediterranean restaurants, two public houses for meals (one with a large children s play area), a local shop with post office, a health centre and pharmacy are all close by. The market town of Newport with its variety of shops, parks, entertainments and restaurants is just 1 mile away. The sandy beaches of the seaside towns of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 20 minute drive. This pretty cottage, favoured by local artists and featured in postcards and books from English Heritage, has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. The charming thatched porch opens into a sitting room with large comfortable sofas, a real gas flame fire, hi fi system and wide screen smart television with Freeview and DVD player. There is a well equipped fitted kitchen with oak units and granite tops, electric double oven and hob, combination microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, washer/dryer plus a dining area overlooking the garden. There is also a second sitting room with small library, ideal for quiet relaxation.Stairs lead up to two double bedrooms, one of which has a king size four poster bed, plus a bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. Additional stairs lead up to the second floor where there is a twin bedroom accessed through a single bedroom with digital television and DVD player; these rooms prove popular as a den for children. A great selection of DVDs, books, children's toys, games and stair gates are provided. In addition, a travel cot and high chair can be available. The cottage is centrally heated, and the electricity, heating and WiFi internet are provided at no extra charge. There is a pretty, south facing enclosed garden enjoying sun virtually all day and a haven for a wide variety of birds, red squirrels etc. with garden furniture and outdoor toys provided.
