About this property

Topsails is a splendid, detached property set in an enviable location in the village of Freshwater, Isle of Wight. Just a moment’s stroll from the beautiful Colwell Bay and the famous Hut Restaurant, this dog-friendly cottage is a fantastic retreat for a family looking to spend some time in this beautiful part of the Isle of Wight. Upon arrival, park up in the driveway and leave your car there for the whole week, especially with everything situated within walking distance. The contemporary sitting room welcomes you, complete with a plush corner sofa situated opposite a Smart TV, perfect for a lazy night in. Make the most of the sunroom and relax on the swinging chairs, before moving to the kitchen to prepare a hearty dish, assisted by a range of appliances. Serve up culinary treats in the dining room or take the evening outside and dine alfresco style from the patio furniture; there’s even a barbecue for those grilled feasts. The ground-floor also has a handy utility room and a cloakroom, along with a double bedroom. Venture upstairs to discover a further double bedroom, a bunk room, and a twin, each neutrally presented, whilst the bathroom offers the choice of bath or walk-in shower. Within a brief amble lies Colwell Bay, regarded as one of the most picturesque beaches on the Isle of Wight, offering glorious views back across the Solent to mainland England where beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed; your canine companion is welcome too! On your return, stop off for a delicious dinner at The Hut, a laid-back, beachfront restaurant serving seafood specialities and grilled meats. Two miles away lies Yarmouth, home to idyllic narrow streets and a range of independent shops and inns to explore, plus the historic Henry VIII castle. Lace up your boots and venture up the idyllic Tennyson Down, a beautiful open downland trail with sheer chalk cliffs and dramatic sea views. On your return, look forward to relaxing in the luxury of Topsails.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.

Despite the amenities at Colwell Bay being closed during our stay, we really enjoyed the short stroll to the beach at low tide, did lots of fossil hunting and enjoyed the beautiful house. It was very homely and had lots of lovely books and games to borrow. The heating was left on for us and a nice welcome pack too, even doggie treats. I think the only thing we missed was a potato masher (it is so well equipped) and we found the tv temperamental. I would definitely recommend this property. Nice enclosed garden for dogs and children and everyone very friendly. We had a great time thank you and would be wonderful to stay here at any time of the year.

The house is spotlessly clean. So many rooms, wonderful dining room, lovely comfortable living room, but the best is the conservatory so much light, lovely and warm when the sun shines we used the room for reading and games and jigsaws puzzles. The garden is fully fenced off so your dogs can go outside without having to worry about them. You have everything you need in the kitchen to make meals. The beach is two minutes walk away. There were only two of us and we used the double bedroom which had plenty of storage I peeped into the other three bedrooms and they were all lovely wonderful for a large family. If you want a luxury home for a lovely holiday choose this house.
