Halcyon on Isle of Wight is a superb rental that we’d gladly stay at again (and again). Quality and thoughtfulness of the house is top-notch, with very little exception. It’s location on a 40mph arterial road has two manageable drawbacks: road noise while not close to constant can be a distraction mainly for the one street-facing bedroom; double-paned window cuts car noise significantly but inhibits open window when temperatures rise. Also, pulling out in a car from the driveway can be daunting, as the house is on a slight bend and often requires a combination of speedy egress and oncoming traffic cooperation. We never had any ‘close calls’ pulling out, but it nevertheless entailed some agility and moxy.We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the well-appointed house, and felt totally comfortable and at-ease with the verdant, countryside setting.Halcyon is walkable to a large Tesco, a garden centre and the wonderful Freshwater Bay beach, and a bit beyond Tesco to the largely residential village of Freshwater. F’water Bay is gorgeous but a) is pebble beach, b) virtually no waves for those who care and c) beyond a semi-posh restaurant and an ice cream shack largely devoid of shops/development; the sole small carpark is free after 6pm.Short (5-10 minute) drives to all the West Island highlights is a big bonus. But be mindful that much of IoW life/activities/shops happens in central and even more so, eastern island. Farthest destinations (eg Rye, Sandown, etc.) are 40-minutes max drive.Thank you very much! to the owners of Halcyon for making their property available to the public - we loved our stay there and hope to come back soon!

This is a delightful cosy cottage that has been very tastefully decorated. It was just 2 of us who stayed here. We felt very much at home, so relaxing. Quite cool considering we had warm nights which was a relief. It would be very cosy in the winter months with the open fire. The garden was very pretty too (watch out for the midges though). All the equipment was of a high standard and we had everything we needed. Just the little things like washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, salt n pepper etc, makes a big difference. Thank you. If you're not used to traffic noise, this is the only drawback of the front room bedroom (the is a double and single room at the back of the house), if it's a warm night and you need to open the window. It is quite a busy road, though the late of night it's quiet. We didn't have a car which wasn't a problem. The breezer bus from the ferry stopped just a couple of minutes walk from the house and the bus stop for the no.7 to Yarmouth & Newport is about a 10 minute walk away. There is also a Tesco's Superstore there too. We had a Tesco delivery for when we arrived, so we were all set. Freshwater Bay is about a 10 minute walk away, down a lane and a public footpath. A very pleasant walk. You can also walk to Easton down the same lane, where I recommend the Piano Bar for brunch or lunch, the thatched church and access Tennyson Down to the Needles. The circular walk from Freshwater to Yarmouth along the estuary is a must. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Nice little cottage in a peaceful location. Comfy beds, plenty of hot water. Had everything we needed. The cottage sleeps 5 but only really room for 4. We might have sat out in the garden but the garden chairs were not ready for use and we didn't fancy cleaning them. Otherwise, all good.
