Listen, if you are booking a holiday in a beautifully converted former water tank in the middle of a wheat field, you can expect to be a little bit in the middle of nowhere, and that's exactly what you get in the Tank House. It's a wonderful conversion, comfortable and high spec, but walk through the front door and you're in a wheat field, watching swifts swoop across the sky, while fat rabbits laze in the sun and the alpaca in the adjacent field eyeball you from a distance. it is simply a stunning place to spend time, with a sea of wheat blowing in the breeze while a big sky stretches away forever. Facilities are great, and it's a well-appointed self-catering let. You might want to bring a teapot and a larger frying pan as the pan in the property is medium-sized, but apart from that everything you need is there. The freezer had ice in it, and best of all was the washing machine which allowed us to wash and dry our holiday clothes before even finishing the holiday... a little thing, but with the sun high in the sky it took half an hour to dry everything so why not? There are regular visitors to the wheat field, in the form of several Apache attack helicopters from the local army aviation training centre, which do loops in the local area as pilots learn their wings. They're out and about much of the week, depending on weather, and there are normally a few night flights after dusk for an hour or two, but after the first couple of fly pasts they become part of the background. Amazing machines, and certainly not what you expect to see scooting along the treeline on an average evening. The owner is great, friendly and helpful, and although you're left alone to do your thing throughout the holiday they were kind and helpful to us when we needed a favour. There are plenty of facilities within a short drive, and pubs just a short walk away. The nearby town of Stockbridge is a real gem, packed with fine eateries and delis, and with Winchester, Andover and Salisbury all close enough to drive to, whatever you need is easily accessible. All in all, the Tank House is a superb place to stay, and a great opportunity to spend a bit of time in the idyllic Hampshire countryside, surrounded by swifts, butterflies, and AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters. Can't praise it highly enough - get on and book it! Or don't, because then it'll be booked up and we won't be able to come back!

The kitchen wasn’t well equipped. Wifi didn’t work. Contact by phone with the owner ( 3 phone numbers ) was not possible. No solution by email either. No contact with cottages.com by phone on Saturday. So a lot could have been better.

The peace and space at the Tank House is beautiful, a lovely space to recharge and watch the stars and wildlife.
