Guests say

Drovers Cottage in Petersfield is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its peaceful and tranquil setting, abundant local wildlife, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the thoughtful welcome treats, the cottage's cleanliness, and its proximity to local amenities and scenic walks. While some minor issues with shower facilities and occasional flies are noted, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many guests planning return visits.

The cottage is generally regarded as clean, with no negative comments on cleanliness. One incident with flies was mentioned, but it appears to be an isolated event rather than a reflection of overall cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its quietness, wildlife, and access to local walks and amenities. Its proximity to towns like Portsmouth and Winchester adds to its appeal.

The cottage is described as comfortable and cosy, with a good mattress and a relaxing environment. However, a preference for a larger bed by one guest suggests a slight deduction in the comfort score.

Facilities are well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. Some concerns about the shower facilities and a mention of a pub closure in the village suggest room for improvement.

While guests mention welcome treats, there is no consistent reference to the thoughtfulness of the host or additional amenities that would guarantee a score in this category. Therefore, it is politely noted that such treats are a delightful surprise and not guaranteed.

As the name suggests, Drovers Cottage was formerly a place of rest for drovers (modern day livestock transporters), who travelled hundreds and hundreds of miles with their animals and needed somewhere to rest. The group of fir trees, which still remain to this day, were an easily recognisable landmark even from afar. The fields surrounding the cottage are of archaeological interest, as they were used as Roman camps and often oyster shells can be found, these were brought in barrels from the coast for the Roman warriors to eat, and they tossed the shells into the fields.

Having been totally renovated, Drovers Cottage offers tasteful and well-presented accommodation, and is within easy walking distance to the quaint thatched-roof village, with its shop, beautiful church and two pubs serving good food. This picturesque village is steeped in history, it has a bronze burial in the parish, which dates back to 2000BC. The village was part of the Royal Manor, belonging first to King Alfred the Great, then later William the Conqueror, which is recorded in the Domesday Book.

Within easy reach are the South Downs, Portsmouth, Winchester Cathedral, Southampton with its maritime history, the New Forest, Chichester, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house and Birdworld. We've stayed in East Meon last year at another cottage and enjoyed the location very much, the location assisting us to visit family in Hampshire and West Sussex. So this year we decided to stay at Drovers Cottage and it didn't disappoint at all, small but perfectly form and very well equipped for two adults and a Doberman, who very much enjoyed the locate walks from the front door but was a little put out by the pheasants and partridges, we don't get them at home in Cornwall. We were welcomed with milk in the fridge and other yummy freebees, which were appreciated after a 6 hour journey. We would certainly recommend and will be booking again for our next visit to Hampshire.

Great cottage, secluded and well maintained, perfect for short or longer break. The welcome pack of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits was a treat. Kitchen is well equiped with everyone thing you need. A few things to raise, first the shower attachment is only suitable for doing your hair, secondly there is only one pub in the village now as one is closed and finally we opened the bedroom velux the first night and was greated with a swarm on flies into the room, luckily there was fly killer and a hoover we managed to resolve the problem, but not somethign you want to experience at 11pm!. Apparently it is down to cluster flies that in winter come out of the ground and gather near light / warm and unluckily for us this was the bottom of the bedroom velux.

The cottage is beautifully situated - so quiet and peaceful, and lovely countryside right on the doorstep. A wonderful place to really relax.
