Larch Lodge in Alton is a spacious and welcoming retreat with beautiful views and a tranquil setting. Guests appreciate the friendly hosts and the delightful touches like home-baked treats. The property offers a comfortable stay with plenty of room and a relaxing atmosphere, though some minor maintenance issues are noted.
The lodge is consistently described as clean, with high standards of cleanliness mentioned in several reviews. One review specifically states it was 'cleaned to a very high standard'.
The location is praised for its beautiful views, tranquility, and proximity to local attractions. It offers a country experience while still being accessible to shops and pubs.
The lodge is generally found to be comfortable, especially the beds. However, some guests noted discomfort with the sofas and dining chairs, which affects the score.
Facilities are well-received with some concerns over maintenance, such as peeling sofas, a lack of forks, and weak Wi-Fi. The absence of a washing machine is noted, but the hosts' assistance mitigates this.
While guests mention receiving home-baked brownies and a lemon drizzle cake, as well as a welcome pack, there is not enough information to assess the consistency of such thoughtful gestures across all stays. Therefore, the score is set to null, and guests should note that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

Lovely lodge, and lovely location. Super spacious, there were 5 of us and there was so much room to come together but also have time apart. Sheep out in the fields in the morning which was cute. Had pretty much all we needed, albeit all we really did was eat and chill! Was slightly disappointed with a couple of areas of the lodge, in particular, the state of the sofas. Both were leather and had drastic peeling. One had been covered with a tiny blanket, but the other left. We end up using some spare sheets found in the cupboard to cover these up as the fabric under where the leather had peeled was scratchy. Was a shame as meant it wasn’t too comfy in the evenings. Dining chairs were very well used to the point you can feel the wood in them so again not too comfy. Beds were perfect, super comfy and the bedrooms as a whole were good.Only had 5 forks, not sure if this was intentional as only 5 guests, but seems odd for a 6 sleeper. Salt and pepper shakers in the cupboard, but no salt and pepper in. Same with the coffee pot, seemed to be a pot for coffee but no coffee, this is fine but as noted below would be good to know what’s going to be provided and what’s not as something like coffee we expected would be given. Fridge doors shelves were broken, so there was only one door shelf when we opened it. We managed to find another and reattach it though.Wifi was extremely weak, had to stand in the cupboard to get onto the wifi. Couldn’t connect the tv which was disappointing as we were hoping to have a movie night one evening which we couldn’t do. Shower heads are a bit worn and could do with replacing, water spurting out the top of the heads. Plenty of cups and mugs which was great. It would be really useful to include a list of what is included at the lodge. It was fab to have baking trays, foil, baking paper, washing up liquid. However, there was some uncertainties when packing so to be provided with what is at the lodge would make it super useful for future stays. As noted in the description the road to the lodge has massive holes so beware if you have a low car.Overall it was perfect for our weekend away, however I do think there are a couple of areas that could be improved just to make the overall stay more comfortable.
