About this property

A most impressive and distinctive, Grade ll listed 15th century cottage, conveniently situated in the heart of the attractive hamstone conservation area of the medieval Somerset village of Montacute, four miles from Yeovil. Believed to date back to 1485, this Montacute cottage offers a unique holiday home for both families and groups of friends wishing to explore this lovely area. Once the village shop, and often featured on picture postcards, this Montacute holiday cottage is full of character and has been imaginatively and sympathetically renovated, retaining many of its original features, yet offering modern creature comforts in three bedrooms, a family bathroom, a kitchen with a dining area, and a sitting room. The wealth of beams, exposed stone walls, leaded windows, inglenook fireplaces, plus a warming woodburning stove in the spacious, beamed sitting room, and magnificent king-size four poster double bed all come together to create an unforgettable holiday cottage experience. At the rear of this Montacute cottage there is a cosy decked seating area for two, whilst the front of the cottage looks out over the picturesque conservation area with its striking array of pretty hamstone cottages. Across the road from this Montacute holiday cottage lies the entrance to the National Trust's stunning Montacute House, a magnificent Elizabethan mansion used as a setting for several films including ‘Sense and Sensibility' and 'Wolf Hall'. The grounds and gardens offer beautiful walks. Other local walks take in the nearby St Michael's Hill and Ham Hill, both commanding lovely views towards the Mendip Hills. Further afield, good transport links from this Montacute holiday cottage take you to historic Glastonbury, regal Bath, ancient Sherborne, and even Dorset's stunning Jurassic Coast. This charming Montacute cottage offering a characterful holiday home for everyone to enjoy, at any time of the year.

The historic, medieval Somerset village of Montacute is four miles from Yeovil and most well known for the National Trust's impressive Montacute House, a stunning Elizabethan mansion built for Sir Edward Phelips, the prosecutor of Guy Fawkes. The village centre and conservation area features an array of picturesque hamstone cottages, two thriving pubs, a Post Office, and a fascinating radio and television museum. With ancient Sherborne and the scenic Dorset coastline both easily accessible, you will find that a week is not nearly long enough to enjoy everything on offer within a short drive of this lovely Somerset village!
