    About this property

A traditional end-terrace cottage, perched high on a hill in a tranquil position, overlooking the old spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. With glorious views over the coastline and countryside, it is in an idyllic location for walking, touring or enjoying a family holiday by the sea. With a homely feel throughout, there is a comfortable sitting room with a warming open fire set in the original Victorian fireplace; perfect for cosy nights in the cooler evenings. The bright but simple kitchen has a dining area at one end, while upstairs are two cheerful bedrooms with splendid views over the sea and open countryside. Outside, there is private parking for one car and parking for an additional car in the garden area. This generous-sized enclosed wildlife garden, complete with pond, is accessed via a communal lane and is designed to promote local wildlife. A short stroll down the hill brings you to the golden sands of this seaside resort, with its pier and historic cliff lift. Enjoy a walk from the seafront through the ornamental Valley Gardens to the town centre, where there are many independent shops, galleries, tea rooms and restaurants to choose from. This small, traditional spa town retains its original elegance and charm, and offers fabulous clifftop walking opportunities on the Cleveland Way and a network of public footpaths. The surrounding area is ripe for exploring, with easy access to spectacular moorland and pretty coastal villages, including Staithes and Runswick Bay. With many attractions close by, such as the steam railway at Grosmont and the Danby Moors Centre Exhibition Centre, this cottage provides a lovely base for a happy holiday.

The Victorian seaside resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is well named owing to the sweeping sandy beaches and spectacular coastline of glacial boulder clays. Located at the northern tip of the North York Moors, this small town has an elegant charm about it with a dramatic steep curving roadway which leads from the town centre to the beach. Enjoy the wide vistas from the elevated promenade or visit the Valley Gardens for a relaxing stroll.

" Cliff top cottage was in the most amazing location - beautiful veiws and very clean well equipped and welcoming - i was disappointed that there was no direct access to the garden as this was not made clear on the booking site - saltburn itself is a gem of a place - the beach is so incredibly clean and the water was crystal clear - very family and dog friendly and highly recommended "
    Mrs Carter ‐ 1 Aug 2019
" The door handle was wrapped up in tape, the furniture in the lounge is past it’s best and the blind in the master bedroom was simply a bit of cloth hung over a rod. You advertise the availability of the use of a summerhouse but to be honest the summer house didn’t look safe, for a start one of the glass panes is hanging out and the floor didn’t look safe enough to walk on. The garden is listed as being a wildlife garden which roughly translated means an overgrown mess. Disappointed with the cottage and we were glad we were only staying for 3 nights. This cottage definitely needs some time and money spending on it. "

" Nice garden area for relaxing and great views. Would definitely come again. "
    Ms Fox ‐ 1 Jun 2019
" The drive down to the cottage is not for the faint hearted if you you don’t like single track remote driving but the reward are the views. The mattress in the smaller bedroom is quite lumpy/springy and needs replacing and the steep stairs are not suitable for anybody with a mobility issue. Other than that it’s a great, cosy and inviting cottage. "
    Mr Clegg ‐ 1 Jun 2019
" Although the weather was far from brilliant, we still found plenty to do. We intend to try and go back again next year and hope for a heat wave! A good place to take your dog as well, with good walks straight from the door step. "
    Mrs Jackson ‐ 1 May 2019
" It was superb, top of a cliff with gorgeous views all round including of the sea. Up a lane and nice and secluded. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and a lovely private garden. Short (albeit steep) trek into town and the beach. Can't wait to go back and if you have a dog they'll think their in heaven. "

" It was cosy, well equipped and the location was superb. We really enjoyed our stay an hope to return some day "

"The only reason that it did not exceed my expectations is because I knew where I was going and what it was like. Lovely cottage, fantastic location and lovely area. Will be going back again."

"What a snug little cottage, it had everything we needed, the weather was atrocious but we were toasties with a roaring fire going.. Great costal walks with the dog n the ship Inn at the bottom of the path is dog friendly and a nice pint. We wanted a nice relaxing time away from it all and that's exactly what we got. Would love to go back in the spring."

"Met our needs and expectations. Clean and good neighbours. Lovely views and decorated very nicely."

    Ms Mountain ‐ 1 May 2018
"It has direct access to the Cleveland Way over the cliff path. The views of the sunset (on the East coast!) over the Tees Estuary were magical. If you are reasonably fit, it is easy to holiday here without a car. public transport is good and there is no shortage of places to eat, but it is a hilly walk for provisions! I know the area well, but still didn't have time to cover all the places to I'd like to walk and visit. I will come again. The house was comfortable and homely and had everything required except a hairdryer and I'd like to have found milk in the fridge on arrival. The open fire and wood provided looked enticing and would have been very cosy, but due to good weather, we didn't get to try it! The cottage owner was very helpful regarding a temporary problem with the acces road."
    Mrs Scott ‐ 1 Apr 2018
"but overall very nice, lovely walk to the pub over the hill and down 93 steps food in the pub was also very good made to order so had to wait but no problem. would consider here again if things improved. also it was a shame about the road hope this gets fixed quickly."

" We cannot understand the tone of the previous two reviews. 1. The access by a track is perfectly possible to negotiate with a small car (ours is a Ford Fiesta) Of course you need to go slowly and carefully, as well as access for farm and cottages it is also a footpath, bridleway and cycle track - part of Cycle Route 1. 2. Parking - no problem, either beside the house or on the concrete area in the garden. 3. The garden is a wildlife garden so don't expect it to look like a suburban lawn and garden. We enjoyed the wild flowers, birds and insects that frequent the garden. 4. The cottage was clean to a high standard. We enjoyed the cottagey feel and do not expect everything to match. The doors are the original doors, but it is still cosy, and the heating is there at the flick of a switch. Give it half an hour and you're warm as toast! It's not a palace, just a modest holiday cottage which we found delightful. Everything we expected was there and we had no need to go out and buy anything that we considered should have been provided. 5. The walk into town. Yes you need to be fairly fit, but the name 'Cliff Top Cottage' gives you a clue. I am 71 years old and it took me just 20 minutes to walk down the cliff path - or steps - and up the steps into town. The bus service is brilliant and stops at the bottom of the path, near the Ship Inn, or at the end of the lane if you want to avoid going up or down hill. Even my husband, currently with a bad ankle injury, managed the walk into town - though it took him a bit longer! (We only used the bus when we had shopping to carry back or were going further afield to enjoy the walk back along the cliffs.) 6. Local walks along the cliff, to Staithes or beyond, or north along he beach to Redcar are stunning. The cottage is situated virtually on the Cleveland Way National Path. 7. The town is a Victorian gem. "

"Great location for visiting Saltburn; very comfortable cottage- more spacious than we'd expected, clean and warm. The owners left us a generous wood supply for the fire and the kitchen is well supplied. Good choice with the dog and we intend to return."

"This was a very relaxing holiday for us, it felt like home from home. The cottage had a lovely homely feel to it, very warm and cosy. It was so romantic having an open fire. My husband and I will most certainly try to book this cottage again whenever we come to visit. "
