    About this property

Situated on lovely grounds with views towards the countryside, Old Hall Cottages is an excellent addition to Mayfield, on the southern end of the Peak District National Park. Perfect for couples or a small family, this retreat is furnished to a fabulous standard, presented in a lovely fashion for you and your loved ones to enjoy. Enter inside to the spacious kitchen with its cream units and marble-effect counter tops, look forward to preparing those delicious meals throughout the day. From here, make your way to the lounge, a cosy set-up with comfy seatin and an electric woodburner-effect fire with a stone surround, for a characterful finish. The neighboring dining area is a wonderful place to gather with the family, settle down and discuss those up and coming plans as the night draws in. Upstairs, two bedrooms await, the first is designed as a lovely king-size with bedside tables, a dressing table, and an outlook which leans towards the peaceful countryside. The pretty twin room is equally as calming, a wonderful formation centred by a chest of drawers, all with antique pine beds and wondrous carvings. The tasteful family bathroom completes the property, arranged with a shower above the bath. Make time to appreciate the beautiful scenery in your leisure hours, by relaxing outdoors on the patio area situated to the front of the cottage. Or why not take a stroll around the area, or even cycle to be at one with the location in its entirety? The nearby market town of Ashbourne with its eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys and quaint coaching inns is something of a haven for antique hunters, together with many great antique stores, as well as a variety of pubs and restaurants. The Dove and Manifold Valleys lie close by and both Carsington Water and Alton Towers rest within a 20 minute drive. Old Hall Cottages is a retreat not to be missed.

    Mrs Sismore ‐ 1 Oct 2020
" We spent a week here in early October 2020. Our 2 dogs were very well catered for, and we had everything necessary for a relaxing holiday. The weather had just started to change, so the efficient central heating was appreciated. We would highly recommend this property, we will be going back. "
    Mr Easton ‐ 1 Sep 2020
" Main problem was very very creaky bed and shower controls were impossible to turn on without a struggle... Otherwise pleased to stay at a beautiful cottage like this one. "
    Mrs Foster ‐ 1 Aug 2020
" Ideal location for visiting the area, town has lots of shops and pubs. A few things that could do with change the blind in the second room is not a blackout so had to out blanket up to stop light, the shower control was very had to turn off ended up using a flannel to help me. Sofas really not suitable for 4 adults. "

"We have just returned from Old Hall Cottages (number 2) and I have to say not only is the location perfect to explore the peak district, but the cottage was spotless with some really nice touches for both dogs and owners. The only down side and it is the only one is having to be out of the accommodation by 9.00am on the morning of departure. The Royal Oak a ten minute walk down the hill was perfect to stroll down to for a drink and the food was excellent."
    Miss Edwards ‐ 1 Jul 2020
" We stayed in cottage No2 and the accommodation was spotless with the welcome pack left by the owners an added bonus. They say its the little things that matter and although for anyone who doesn't have a dog this is a lovely holiday cottage, the spare dog bowls, dog treats and .....poo bags were great added extras. There are some lovely walks from the cottage and the Royal Oak a ten minute walk down the hill is ideal for a drink and good food. The cottage doesn't have a secure garden but there is a large grass area immediately outside for that late night bit of exercise before bed. "
    Mrs Gell ‐ 1 Jul 2020
" The only downside was the creaky master bed. For us as a daily of four, the cottage suited us well and we’d visit again. "
    Ms Rotherham ‐ 1 Jul 2020
" Brilliant location, we visited Buxton, Crich, Castleton and although we didn’t go - Alton Towers is 15 mins away. Another cottage is available next door if you want to increase it to six people. 100% recommend. Thank you for a fabulous short break during a tricky situation in the country! "

" Had everything we needed and we arrived to a lovely welcome gift. Perfect location for lots of fun days out including Alton Towers, just a short drive away. We’ve had a wonderful week and made many special memories in this lovely cottage. Thank you! "

    Mrs Sargeant, May 2019 ‐ 1 May 2019
" The owner was very nice to deal with and extremely understanding when my one year old got hold of a candle! Overall fab cottage and hope to return next year. "
    Miss Davies
" The house is furnished to a high standard with everything you need including tea, sugar, sandwich bags and even games and handy walking maps! There is plenty of room for 4 adults, the only thing I would have liked is more outside space which cottage 3 has plenty of - and the best view! "
    Mrs Gilbert
" When we stay again (which we most definitely will) I know that all we need is our clothing and personal toiletries. Great location, especially for Alton Towers and some really lovely pubs serving great food (mega portions too). "
    Mr Doherty
" It would be nice to have pasta bowls but this is a very minor thing and we managed fine without them. The cottage is on the whole very well equipped. The welcome gift was a lovely surprise too. It did take a while to work out how to use the hob but by trial and error we got there. I could have done with an idiots guide to start. Many thanks Gay "
    Mr Carter, March 2019
    " We had a wonderful weekend! "
    Mr Whelan
" Sited in a picturesque location with very friendly locals. The area also bragged an abundance of scenic walk & cycling locations close to hand. On arrival we were greeted with welcoming treats to ease into the holiday, kindly supplied by the owners. Would highly recommend without a doubt! "
    Mr Greenaway, February 2019
" We had the added bonus of bringing our dogs and baby, who enjoyed the space in the Cottage. Well positioned for exploring the area and easily accessible. "
    Mr Hillier
" Wonderful views over the countryside and plenty of footpaths for dog walking. We were impressed with the situation of the cottage as it was very close to Carsington Water, Dovedale and the Tissington Trail. Some good dog friendly pubs in Ashbourne and two large supermarkets only a couple of miles away. We had some snow but this did not hinder us at all as we are keen walkers. Would recommend to family and friends. "

" Great place to stay; the cottage itself was clean, warm and homely, and stocked with pretty much all you need for a short stay, in a peaceful setting with a lovely view. A couple of possible suggestions to the owners; a king-sized bed in the master room rather than a double, and maybe one or two tupperware type containers in the kitchen that could be borrowed for pack-ups on trips out walking / biking. The only negatives for this property from our perspective are: the double bed is creaky and the mattress a bit on the soft side, and also the floorboards upstairs creak nearly every step you take.  BUT, don't be put off as it wouldn't stop us returning - we definately recommend this place, there's a lot of thought gone in for the comfort of guests, and the welcoming treats left by the owners were both generous and greatly appreciated. This property is in a good location with plenty of things to do nearby, so much so that we wished we'd booked an extra night. In our opinion, well worth booking a stay here. "
    Mrs Talbot
" Plenty of walks straight from the cottage but also not far to drive to Ashbourne, Derby and all Peak District tourist sites. The cottage itself was beautifully kitted out, very clean and pleasant decor. The owners had thought of everything to make our new year break a truly wonderful experience. We did have one concern, which the owners fixed within half an hour. We are hoping to re book next year. "

"So quiet and peaceful which we loved. Sat outside all day on the Wednesday of our stay and just enjoyed the views and fresh air. Very close to Alton Towers so that kept the teens happy on a couple days and the free WiFi did the rest!!! The addition of a tasty welcome pack was a lovely touch. Connie and Ian are excellent hosts. We will be back to this lovely place. Highly recommend it."

"For two though just right. Only slight niggle was that the shower control was so tight my wife couldn't turn it, we did mention it before leaving though so hopefully it will get sorted out."
    - Mrs Langford, December 2018
"arrived and key was in key safe as per arranged. everything we needed in the cottage including a lovely Christmas tree. Rooms well furnished and comfy. Excellent Welcome 'pack' including treats for the dogs. property is co-joined to the owners cottage, but there is enough privacy. lovely views over the fields. Ashbourne is only 2 miles away (with an aldi on the way in) with all the moochy shops you would need and a co-op and waitrose accessable from the main car park (nice park to walk the dogs around too). the owners even posted the phone charger we left as well !( Nice touch). would love to return again."
