Diggle is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breath-taking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Diggle is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities and is well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located at one end of the restored Standedge Canal Tunnel and Visitor Centre, Britain's longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel. In the heart of the village are the Hanging Gate pub, the Diggle Hotel pub, a few shops selling essentials and Play2 Diggle, a children’s indoor activity Centre. There is a brass band club called the Diggle Band Club which regularly hosts band contests and concerts and The Diggle Blues Festival is an annual event that takes place in June and Diggle is one of the villages that hosts the Whit Friday Band Contests.
