About this property

The Lookout is a sumptuous, two-storey retreat overlooking the centre of the charming market town of Holmfirth. In an excellent central location and with the glorious Peak District close by, this stylish retreat can be enjoyed equally for a relaxing break or an adventure-filled holiday. The accommodation rests over the first and second floors; firstly you will enter into a beautiful sitting room set with contemporary furnishings, a Smart TV and a divine window seat overlooking Holmfirth town. Wander through into a fabulous kitchen - stylish units host a range of high-quality appliances whilst a breakfast bar completes the layout. Head up to the second floor, here you will find two tastefully finished king-size bedrooms. This first-class accommodation concludes exquisitely with a luxurious family bathroom boasting glistening tiles and a rainfall shower over the bath. Step out of your front door and stumble upon the wonderful market town of Holmfirth, split by the River Holme with both sides providing superb shops and eateries. To truly admire breath-taking walking and cycling country, take the trip into the Peak District National Park before escaping to Peveril Castle, Treak Cliff Cavern, Bamford Edge, or B29 Overexposed Crash Site. Breakaway into the quaint village of Castleton, a popular honey-pot location with its fascinating Blue John Cavern, along with many independent shops and welcoming pubs. Six miles away lies the city of Huddersfield, home to Colne Valley Museum, Castle Hill and Ravensknowle Park, whilst the cities of Sheffield and Manchester can be found further afield, so there’s plenty to add to your itinerary. The Lookout ensures a memorable West Yorkshire break at any time of year.

On the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines, in the picturesque Holme Valley, is the historic, traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth. Holmfirth, made popular by the television series The Last of the Summer Wine, is not only Compo and Nora Batty's stocking town! The best live music venue in the North of England, the "Picturedrome," is in the heart of the city and draws many well-known bands. The 2014 Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire pelotons both passed through this small Holme Valley village on their way up the famous 524-meter Holme Moss climb, which is located two miles away. Cycling's three-time Olympic medalist Ed Clancy was raised on these hills. In addition, Holmfirth offers parks, a good public pool, a fitness centre, as well as a few grocery stores and eateries. The locals are welcoming, the streets are charming, and the surroundings are breathtaking. It's also simple to go to the Peak District National Park, which has moors, dales, woodlands, lakes, and reservoirs. A short picturesque drive will take you to the Upper Derwent Valley, home of the magnificent Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and the site where the renowned 617 "Dambusters" Squadron trained for their daring raid on the Ruhr region in 1943. The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's stately residence, Chatsworth, is a short distance away from Bakewell, the market town where Bakewell Puddings are made. In close proximity and well worth a visit are the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery. Holmfirth offers a taste of culture with its yearly festivals, which include the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals, among many more attractions that keep visitors coming back for more. Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you may schedule wine tasting trips and delight in a delightful meal in the restaurant, is another not to be missed.

Came up from Nottingham to see a gig at the Picturedrome, which was in easy walking distance. Everything was easy to get to. The Lookout was very comfortable, lovely shower and beds. All in all an excellent stay. Just had a slight problem finding a wheelie bin to dispose of our rubbish. Got it sorted in the end. Thank you for your hospitality.

Accommodation well equipped and excellent quality . Issue with broken window but advised in advance and didn’t cause any inconvenience. Lots of car parks in Holmfirth and though they are chargeable , they are not expensive . Lots of lovely shops , bars and eateries

THERE ARE NOT! I once did a back flip down the stairs between the first and second floors, striking my head on the door to the heater closet. The stairs horizontal length is short causing the heels of someone with large feet, such as myself, to have no support. I was fortunate to not suffer a more serious injury than I did. I have mentioned this before but no action has been taken. My wife and I practically crawl up the stairs. There is a high possibility for someone to be seriously injured on these stairs.
