About this property

Dronfield 4.5 miles. Settled in a quiet valley on the outskirts of Barlow, near Dronfield, Derbyshire, sits this inviting escape, Heron Lodge. Positioned at the end of a farm track next to an idyllic lake, along with off-road parking, Heron Lodge invites families for a relaxing stay in Derbyshire. Step into the open-plan living space and immediately feel the underfloor heating below you, before drawing your attention to the stone fireplace housing a woodburning stove, perfect for those colder evenings. Cross over to the kitchen, amply-equipped to assist with the preparation of hearty meals, whilst the handy washing machine means you can easily freshen up your clothes. Off the living area is the master double, whilst around the corner lies the contemporary bathroom, finished with an alluring freestanding bath, heated towel rail and large walk-in shower. The second bedroom can be found upstairs, resting in a mezzanine loft area with twin beds and views to the surrounding valley. Enjoy your morning coffee from the decked furniture. The grounds of the farm make an idyllic setting and the surrounding area is a real haven for walkers; why not wander to the Tickled Trout gastropub and choose from a hearty menu and selection of ales? Nearby lies the stately home of Chatsworth House, boasting a noted art collection, plus a playground and farmyard nestled in the idyllic grounds. Explore further in the Peak District and expect to find beautiful landscapes and walks over the moors, along with excellent cycle routes, fascinating caverns and imposing peaks. The market town of Dronfield lies just under five miles away, home to a wealth of eateries, quirky shops and 12th century buildings that will throw you back in time. Heron Lodge provides a lovely escape to this scenic region of England.

Dronfield is a Derbyshire market town with a history dating back to before the 1086 Domesday Book, and has a number of 12th-century buildings which are still in existence. The town has a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants and also a sports centre, and is surrounded by wonderful Peak District countryside where the walks are asking to be explored. Dronfield is situated between the Peak District National Park and the city of Sheffield while close by is the historic town of Chesterfield which is most notable for its famous crooked spire of St Mary and All Saints Church. The impressive Damflask, Agden, Dale Dike and Ladybower dams make for an interesting afternoon's ramble, while the attractive village of Hathersage (thought to be the inspiration for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre) is also within easy reach and is home to a selection of shops, pubs and inviting eateries, plus an outdoor lido. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, whilst the historic and ever popular town of Bakewell and the rest of the Peak District, are within a short drive.

We spent our days walking and exploring and the evenings relaxing in the Lodge, a real homely feeling with all the mod cons. The location is very quiet, and seeing the horses pass by every day was a bonus. We'd highly recommend Heron Lodge and hope to visit again in the future.

The location was in a quiet spot, suited us just fine. All round a very good break and place to stay. Come on you blades.

The surroundings of the lodge are beautiful, and are dog ruby had the best of times in the paddock. The welcome hamper was the best that we have ever received. Thank you Angela Dean and family for the lovely welcome that you all gave us at heron lodge. We will definitely return in the coming future. Debbie Dave and Ruby x
