While the cottage is ideal for relaxation and exploration, tall guests may find the sloping ceilings a bit challenging.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently mention the cottage's cleanliness, indicating a high standard maintained by the host.

The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views, and convenience for exploring the Peak District, making it a highly desirable feature of the property.

The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, with a particularly comfy sofa mentioned. However, the mention of sloping ceilings affecting taller guests slightly lowers the score.

Facilities are well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and initial food items provided. The only drawback mentioned is the difficulty some guests experienced with the hot water and the bedroom's restricted headroom.

The host's thoughtfulness is evident through the welcome basket and the provision of local information. While gifts are warmly received, they are a personal touch and may vary.

About this property

Resting in the Peak District National Park, Charlotte's Cottage is a contemporary, open-plan annexe next to the owner's home on the outskirts of Hathersage, Derbyshire. The cottage offers uninterrupted views across beautiful countryside and welcomes a couple or young family for a quiet, rural escape. Follow a country track to find off-road parking in front of the property for an easy arrival to your new home-away-from-home. Step inside a sleek, open-plan living space with a contemporary kitchen to please any budding chef; rustle up picnics for hikes or hot evening meals using the electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer, along with a handy washing machine to throw in muddy walking gear! Enjoy a dinner for two or dine as a family at the convenient, foldable dining table and chairs, before settling down for the evening. Turn on the electric fire for added comfort, whilst you snuggle up on the cushioned leather sofa and watch a film on the TV. A spacious, ground-floor shower room is a stylish setting to get ready for the day ahead; hang your towel on the heated towel rail and step inside the large walk-in shower for a hot rinse. Climb the staircase to find a lovely double room perfect for resting your head after the day's adventures, with sloped ceilings and a Velux window to appreciate the unspoilt country views. Why not welcome the day with a hot cup of coffee at the outdoor seating? The side garden offers a gravelled area to sit and soak up your peaceful surroundings. Lace up your walking boots and follow public paths into the countryside to escape the hustle and bustle, whilst the trendy village of Hathersage is a short journey away; over the years, the village has enticed the likes of Charlotte Brontë, whose novel, Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage. You'll be staying adjacent to the house she is believed to have stayed at, as quoted in farms and families of Hathersage! Take a break from the kitchen and dine at one of the village eateries followed by a tipple in a wine bar, find all your self-catering needs in the local convenience store, or catch a bus or train to discover vibrant nearby cities, such as Sheffield. Be sure to pack your swimming gear and take a dip in the popular outdoor pool and stop off at Hope Valley Ice Cream for a delicious treat! Avid climbers will be spoilt for choice in the Peak District, with the likes of Stanage Edge, Horseshoe Quarry and Froggatt within easy reach of Hathersage, offering varied routes and spectacular views. The Peak District also plays host to fabulous walking routes and fascinating caves, including Treak Cliff Cavern and Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park, with underground limestone caves and woodland trails with plenty of picnic spots. Idyllic villages are also scattered around the National Park; stop for lunch in Castleton to admire the ruins of Peveril Castle, built by Henry II in 1176, and guided tours of Peak Cavern, whilst Curbar is home to striking rock climbs for panoramic views and the welcoming tavern, The Bridge Inn. Choose Charlotte's Cottage for a memorable escape to the country!

Hathersage is a charming village in the Peak District National Park, at the head of the Hope Valley and close to Edale's superb walking. Many people come to Hathersage to see the churchyard and the burial of "Little John" (of Robin Hood renown). There is a considerable assortment of stores, taverns, and restaurants for a village of its size, as well as a public, open-air heated swimming pool and railway station. A fantastic starting point for exploring the Peak District!

Well appointed and maintained. Every possible facility provided including some initial food items. My only problem was the retricted headroom in the bedroom made worse for me by having a spinal condition. The lane to the property was also very difficult but of course neither of these issues is the fault of the owner
