Snaptrip says

Poacher's Rest is a well-regarded cottage in the Peak District, praised for its spaciousness, warm welcome, and central location. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including welcome gifts, and find it a cosy retreat with beautiful views. While some mention issues with dampness and Wi-Fi, these are outweighed by the property's charm and convenience for exploring the area.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be very clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about mustiness and dog mess on the lawn. The overall impression is that the property is kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is generally praised for its convenience to local attractions and the beauty of the surrounding area. However, some guests were concerned about traffic noise and the proximity to the A6, which slightly affected the score.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a particularly spacious bedroom and cosy atmosphere. Some concerns about the lounge being dark and damp have been noted, but overall, the comfort level is high.

While the cottage is described as well-equipped, there are recurring issues with Wi-Fi, TV equipment, and a lack of shower facilities. Due to mixed feedback and the absence of consistent positive reviews for all facilities, a definitive score cannot be provided.

The owners are frequently commended for their thoughtfulness, including welcome gifts such as wine and biscuits. It should be noted that such gestures are at the owners' discretion and may not be a consistent offering for all stays.

About this property

A lovely one bedroom, stone-built modern cottage with fantastic walks from the doorstep and great views, conveniently located between Bakewell and Matlock on the outskirts of the village of Rowsley. Next to the owner’s home, this spacious detached property is ideal for couples looking for a romantic retreat. On the ground floor there is a modern kitchen with large dining table, a utility room and a cloakroom. Step down a few steps into the very roomy and tastefully furnished sitting room. It’s a lovely place to snuggle up together and watch a movie however there’s a large comfy sofa each if you fancy some alone time. On the first floor is a double en-suite bedroom which is tastefully furnished and enjoys oodles of space. From here there’s a door out to a large roof terrace leading on to a raised decked area with patio furniture. This is a fantastic place to sit and watch the sun set with uninterrupted views to the pasture and woods adjoining the garden. There are fantastic walks straight from the door and there’s a paddock for exercising your canine friend if they’re not already worn out from a good day’s walk. With something always going on in nearby Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath, this is a great base for exploring everything this beautiful part of the world has to offer.

The pretty village of Rowsley is situated just at the south of stately Chatsworth - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and a stone’s throw from the impressive tudor-built Haddon Hall. This little village has many attractions, including Caldwell's Mill which houses the last water-powered roller flour mill and a range of craft workshops, shops and a restaurant, Peak Rail, which is a rail enthusiasts dream with rides along the valley, and the Peak Village which has many designer outlet shops with bargains galore together with feature attractions, a fitness centre and an old fashioned sweet shop and ice cream parlour. Rowsley offers a range of village amenities including shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, excellent fly fishing facilities (day tickets available from the historic Peacock Hotel) and in neighbouring Reedsmere is the superb Michelin-starred East Lodge Hotel and Restaurant. Close by is Bakewell, capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. This picturesque town is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and further attractions in the area include Gulliver's Kingdom, the shops and eateries of Matlock Bath, and Alton Towers, also within easy touring distance, making the location ideal for the whole family to enjoy.
