Pear Tree Cottage wraps its arms around you as soon as you enter the cosy beautifully furnished living room, not to mention the characterful kitchen! Enjoying an idyllic, elevated position in a peaceful corner of Wirksworth town, guests can enjoy the various amenities on offer in this pretty Peak District market town. From shops to restaurants, this little town, rightly called āthe Gem of the Peakā is nestled amidst the beauty of the surrounding landscape. There are various local pubs which provide an excellent stop after walking the Peaks. Outside is a delightful private garden, where you can enjoy the sunny seating area, which makes for a peaceful retreat after a long day exploring all that the wonderful Peak District has to offer.
The area around Pear Tree Cottage is called āThe Puzzle Gardensā and has the feel of a Cornish fishing village - a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient ājittiesā and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, or sitting on the bench in front of the cottage, with a drink, to take in its character.
Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of the White Peak. It is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers, and bakers, with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks, and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there are good walking routes all around. Well dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival in May, and a leading rural annual arts festival in September, showcasing contemporary art and international performers of every kind. With an art deco independent cinema and a range of places to eat there is plenty to keep you entertained. The town offers a leisure centre with a climbing wall and a small trainer swimming pool, an Eco Centre, and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre. The weekly market and monthly farmersā market provide local produce and crafts. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliverās Kingdom. Only 2 miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday, with shops, pubs, and restaurants 500 yards away.

Beautiful cottage. Everything is nicely done and great quality. Lots of information is provided by the owners which is very helpful. It is on a fairly steep hill (so would be a problem for people with poor mobilty) but it kept us fit .Overall a lovely place to stay.

A pretty cottage with very tasteful interiors and an excellent kitchen. A lovely garden and great views. Difficult parking but we managed it. Wirksworth is very quirky with an amazing church. Altogether a great place to visit and a sweet cottage to stay in.

Cottage was immaculate and provided everything we needed for our 3 night weekend break. The stairs up to the first floor are very steep so may not be suitable for all. There is not a dedicated parking space but parking is available nearby or on the road. There is a steep walk up to the cottage but views from there are lovely and location very quiet.
