The surrounding area is well served for cyclists and walkers, with the town situated at the start of the Monsal Trail, whilst the rolling limestone hills of the White Peak and the dramatic moorlands and gritstone edges of the Dark Peak provide endless opportunities for exploring via the extensive network of public footpaths and open access land. Head to Derby for a fun-filled day out, home to the impressive Derby Cathedral, The Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill and the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, whilst Matlock is also worth a visit with its Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Choose Wayland House for a delightful base in the Peak District.

An attractive little market town retaining a delightful rural atmosphere and offering a good selection of shops, restaurants, and pubs, as well as local farmers markets. There is an old 17th- century market hall in the town centre and a modern leisure centre with swimming pool nearby. Bakewell is situated within the Peak District National Park and is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful region. Both the rugged Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak are within easy reach, and Alton Towers, Britain’s premier theme park, is only a short drive away. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall to mention just a few, while the impressive caverns in nearby Castleton and Little John’s burial place in Hathersage are also well worth a visit. The property was a short walk into Bakewell which suited us perfectly. Everything worked and the kitchen was well equipped. The instructions were perfect, accurate and detailed enough without having to feel as if you’re reading a rule book. Great to have a text from Laura on day 1 too.

I can't recall reading it was up a hill? I may of missed this in the listing though. The cupboard above the shoe rack in the kitchen is dangerous. My mum banged her head on the sharp corner when putting her shoes away. A funny place to put a shoe rack. The bed in the back bedroom is too big for the room, tiny space to get out of bed, especially with a hot radiator right next to it. Very impractical. Despite this, we really enjoyed our stay. Immaculately clean, very warm and welcoming when we arrived. Lovely views from upstairs, especially during the beautiful snowfall. Thank you.

The bed in the main bedroom is massive and very comfortable. Lovely views, good dog walking nearby and a short walk to the town centre. Would definitely stay here again, excellent value.
