The location is appreciated for its beautiful surroundings and proximity to local attractions and eateries. The cottage's comfort and facilities, including a wood-burning stove and games for children, receive positive remarks, although a few guests noted the duvets and towels could be thicker.
Reviews frequently highlight the cottage's cleanliness, with multiple guests describing it as 'spotless' and 'very clean', indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The location is highly regarded for its pleasant village setting, beautiful countryside, and walking distance to pubs and restaurants. The scenic views and accessibility to local attractions contribute to the positive feedback.
Comfort is well-received with mentions of a 'comfy bed' and a 'cosy' wood-burning stove. However, a few guests felt that the duvets and towels were not as luxurious as expected, slightly affecting the score.
Facilities are generally praised, especially the well-equipped kitchen, games for children, and the wood-burning stove. However, there are comments about the games room being 'a little neglected' and a radiator not heating up properly, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.
The thoughtfulness of the hosts is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome basket and other extras. While these gestures are well-received, it is noted that such gifts, though delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.
This fine cottage offers comfortable living in a historic setting, next to the former Cheshire Hunt Inn from which the Hunt used to ride. It enjoys wonderful country views and is in walking distance of the old mill village of Bollington.
Damson Cottage is one of two Cheshire Hunt holiday cottages in Rainow on the Cheshire border. Damson and Orchard Cottage are the result of a barn conversion completed in 2008. The original building dating back to the 1850's is situated next to a local landmark, the former Cheshire Hunt Inn from which the Hunt used to ride. The cottages have their own separate facilities but are available for hire together for extended family holidays to accommodate 11 guests for larger family groups.
Described by the Peak District Authority as a property of architectural interest, the barn is located on a small track, which winds its way up through the valley, forming part of the well-known walkers' path, the Gritstone Trail. The luxury self-catering retreat has been individually furnished and has its own unique character. Enjoying wonderful views over the open countryside, the cottage is within walking distance of the old mill village of Bollington, with its pubs, restaurants, local shops and parks.

A comfortable cottage, well equipped, with personal touches making it warm and welcoming. The owner, Anne, provided the best hamper we have ever had at a Rural Retreats cottage! Although she was on holiday, she contacted us to make sure we had everything we needed. In spite of the rain, we enjoyed our stay there.

Lovely quirky cottage in a beautiful area with walks from the doorstep. Well equipped kitchen, with a quality hamper provided by owners. We loved the wood burner in the open plan lounge/dining area, but found the radiator in the lounge didn't heat up properly meaning mornings were very chilly! The owner Anne was very quick to help by providing additional electric heaters. We will happily return to enjoy the cottage again.
