About this property

Southport 6.4 miles. Tucked away on the outskirts of the quaint village of Banks, a short distance from Southport, rests this delightful single-storey holiday home, Old Hollow Cottage. Featuring a traditional cottage interior and enjoying a secluded garden, ideal for soaking in the sunshine, Old Hollow Cottage makes a wonderful base for a romantic retreat in Lancashire. Park up at the foot of this lovely dwelling and make your way inside your new home-from-home to begin your staycation, leaving any muddy walking boots on the patio as you enter. The pint-sized kitchen is well-equipped with a range of amenities, perfect for whipping up a romantic meal for two to enjoy at the table in the dining room, or outdoors amongst the peaceful greenery of your private garden. The sitting room is a wonderful space to settle down in the evening, with a rustic woodburning stove nestled inside an exposed brickwork fireplace providing a cosy ambiance, perfect for curling up with a good book. At the end of another action-packed day, soak tired muscles amongst the bubbles in the tub before retreating to the sumptuous double bedroom to catch your rest. With the sprawling salt-marshes and sand flats of the Ribble and Alt Estuaries settled on your doorstep, you're in a birdwatcher's haven, with waterfowl and a wealth of other wintering birds decorating the preserve, waiting to be discovered. Those looking for a more exhilarating experience may prefer to venture into the heart of Southport and tackle the towering roller coasters at Southport Pleasureland or try their luck on the vintage penny slots aboard Southport Pier. Treat your better half to an indulgent meal at Trattoria 51, an elegant Italian restaurant, or grab a bite to eat on the seafront at Guelder Rose. Be sure to pack your clubs and spend an afternoon at one of the many golf clubs that surround the local area, or bask in the sun and sand with a visit to Formby Beach. For a change of pace, head to the bustling city of Preston, where you can discover locomotives with a history dating back over 100 years at the Ribble Steam Railway & Museum, indulge in a spot of retail therapy at St George's Shopping Centre, or if you time it right, catch kick off at Deepdale Stadium. Whisk your loved one away on a romantic retreat to Old Hollow Cottage.

Southport, along with nearby Ainsdale, rest on the Irish Sea coast of the North West of England. Home the UK's second-longest pleasure pier, the Southport Pier Tramway, and the elegant, tree-lined Lord Street, there's plenty to see and do in this wonderful town. There's a wealth of local amenities to assist with self-catered stays, including delicious eateries and shopping opportunities, whilst a wider variety of choice can be found in Ainsdale.

We stayed here 6 nights and had a lovely time. Its location is excellent for exploring and commuting and a peaceful place to return to.

Had a great 2 weeks here. There was plenty of space for two people plus pooch, comfortable bed, plenty of kitchen utensils and log burner which was great for the colder winter nights. There are some fabulous walks on the cottage doorstep and a wonderful garden with summer house. Slightly off the beaten track so would need a car to travel into the nearest village.
