In Clitheroe (within 10 miles), browse independent shops and admire the valley views from the Norman castle before choosing something local for dinner. Skipton (23 miles) makes another rewarding day out, with a medieval castle where you can explore the banqueting hall and Tudor courtyard, followed by lunch in one of the town’s independent cafes. With both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District within reach by car, there’s also scope for longer days exploring limestone country or strolling beside the lakes.
